There are people who seek professionalism in their projects, and not less those who look for it in video editors , in this case we talk about a somewhat complex video editor which not everyone can understand correctly, or it will be somewhat tedious.
This video editor is at least complex at first, but that gives us a wide variety of possibilities. It is focused on the world of high definition video, and in general for the use of professionals or experts in the field.
Its main task and highlight is the editing of .MKV files which can contain a lot of information and are used by professionals. An example would be a series in a file, which contains several chapters in it. This format allows us to add an unlimited amount of content , such as subtitles in other languages, a multitude of audio or video tracks and others. Hence the use of this program.
MKVToolnix: Its functions
The main functions that this program contains are the following:
- View and edit metadata information in each .MKV file
- Merge .MKV files
- Extract a file and divide it into its components.
- It does not require that the video file be MKV.
- It works for Windows, Linux and Mac
And many more professional functions, which we would not find in a normal or simple video editor, but that in this one we can use for free without any more problems than accessing the developer’s website .
The program requires a team that offers great performance, and with that we specify that we will need a graphics card with more than decent performance to function or at least correctly.
Sections in which the program is divided
The program is divided into several parts, which are ordered to track the progress of video editing, such as a series. In the following images we will see how these parts are divided:
Multiplexer, allows us to perform actions such as crop video , view the contents of the file, view the attached files, modify the output values among many other options.
When we start the program and add a file, we look for the audio codecs, video, subtitles and others with which we can take care of editing them as we please. One option that we can all use so many users with less knowledge about this topic, such as those who already know about it, is to trim video, which is available for any format, it does not need to be .MKV. To do this we can do it, as follows:
We go to the output tab, and select the most convenient option, in this case, we will make it simple and select “After the duration of departure” ,
It will appear to us that we indicate the time from which we want to cut, we click on «Start multiplexing» and we will have been saved in the pre-established location, or in the same one as in the previous file. It is something simple, although we can also use other more complex options such as cutting the video into parts, depending on the weight in megasque they occupy.
Another of the available options we have is to join different video files, in a more professional case it could be chapters of a series and have them all included in the same file.
This is found at the bottom, in the “Add files” drop-down button.
Other functions of MKVToolNix
In the information tool tab, as the name implies, we can find all the information related to the file, such as the number of tracks, the video sizes and duration, quality of the videos and many more data that the files contain, also called metadata.
In the header editor , we can modify the metadata of the video and include information regarding it, such as the name, language of the video and others of each video or audio track.
Chapter editor is the section that, as the name implies, allows us to edit or modify the chapters or videos that we include in the project, such as the duration of both the beginning and the end of the chapter, the language, country, etc.
In the list of tasks , just mention that it is where we can check the status of the modifications of the projects or videos that we are editing, and know if there is any error in the process.
In the result we will check the edition that has been, it contains a record of what has been done, and a warning and error warning section, which can be useful to avoid possible errors after the assembly and rendering of the video.
