Microsoft Prepares an xCloud Application for Smart TV

Microsoft, in the hands of its head of the Xbox division, has commented that they are working on an xCloud application for Smart TV that will allow access and play to their entire catalog without the need for any additional device beyond a connected bluetooth gamepad to the TV.

Microsoft is preparing to conquer Smart TVs too

Microsoft’s new consoles, the Xbox Series X and Series S, could be the last to be released by the Redmond company. And it is that seeing how the whole topic of the game in the cloud advances, the logical thing is to think that many users will not need to acquire a dedicated hardware, it will be enough to have an application that accesses the service and play from any screen.

xCloud Application for Smart TV

Don’t you believe it yet? Well, you are still surprised and all this comes sooner than you think. Because Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division, has said that the company is developing an application for Smart TV that will allow access to the entire catalog of games in the xCloud cloud.

Thanks to this, you will not need anything additional to your smart TV. The only thing, a remote that you can connect well via cable or Bluetooth is always the most comfortable option. Well, that and that logically the Smart TV platform of the television and its processor are capable of meeting the requirements of said app.

Here it is evident that all televisions with Android TV and sufficiently capable hardware (usually high-end models) will be able to run this application that Microsoft is developing. Regarding the rest of the platforms, it will be necessary to see what happens, but again the televisions with the highest benefits with Tizen and WebOS, Smart TV systems from Samsung and LG respectively, should also have their own app because they are brands with a significant market share .

Of course, the possibility that Microsoft launched a kind of “Chromecast” with which it would allow access to its xCloud service from any screen with an HDMI connector is not ruled out.

When will the xCloud app for Smart TV arrive?

If the idea of being able to play xCloud on your Smart TV through an application appeals to you, it is very possible that you are wondering when it would be available. Well, there is no specific date, but it is true that Microsoft indicates that as soon as this next 2021 .

Sure, this is a bit vague, because it could be early January or the last days of December. If we had to get wet, we do not believe that it will go at the end of the year and rather about the first half. After all, with Apple devices they will choose to develop access via browser. So in Smart TVs the solution could be the same, develop a browser that meets your requirements and offers an interface adapted to use on a smart TV.

Hopefully we have news soon, for now you can enjoy xCloud on Android devices, PC and from Microsoft’s own consoles.
