It is a fact that nostalgia sells and that video game companies have found a gold mine after the success of the launch of the NES mini, a machine that came with all the blessings of Nintendo itself and that paved the way to all the companies of the 80s and 90s bombarding us with our old childhood consoles. So SEGA, which already triumphed with its Mega Drive mini a while ago, returns to the fray with its second generation.
New version with more news
The fact is that SEGA has announced a few days ago that as of October 27 (in Japan) an edition of the Mega Drive 2 will go on sale, which hit the market in the throes of the 16-bit generation for a price of 10,978 yen, that is, about 79 euros. Unlike the original model, the one that we all have in mind when we remember this console, this was one that the Japanese launched with many cuts, although it was fully compatible with the historical cartridges that reached the market.
It didn’t have that minijack connector for headphones, nor did it have the volume control and even some video output, but at least it was a more compact and smaller console than the original. Something that we would call slim according to the jargon imposed by Sony, and also Microsoft, who have been very fond of launching thinner and more manageable versions of their old original hulks. There you have the examples of PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, etc.
Of course, unlike the first Mega Drive mini model, this second generation will have the addition that it will be able to play Mega CD games , so we can enjoy some great classics such as the extraordinary Silpheed , or the best known Sonic CD and Shining Force CD .
Now, will we have to buy that accessory in the form of Mega CD 2 like the one that appears in the photo that you have just below to enjoy those titles?

Aesthetic elements and games
The answer to the previous question is no. It will not be necessary to buy that Mega CD 2 mini because it is not a functional device, but a decorative element that what it will do is offer us an aspect more faithful to that of a seguero game set from the 90s. We will only be able to acquire that CD-ROM drive, but also a reproduction of the Sonic CD disc and the special cartridge with the Virtua Racing SVP chip so that it gives the sensation that we have them connected to the console.
As if that were not enough, the accessories of the first original Mega Drive will also work, so the 32X mushroom can also be placed on this Mega Drive 2 to have the complete set in case we want to reproduce the Transformer that was possible to manufacture buying the three legs that made up the bench of the 16-bit console in the mid-90s.
And we come to the heart, to the games. How many and what will they be? Well, it must be said that a total of 50 have been announced, which, as we have told you, will be both Mega Drive and Mega CD, although SEGA has reserved the final list to announce it later. What we do know is that these that we leave you here below will be in a pack that, hopefully, ends up arriving in our country as well.
