MagSafe Duo Charge – Full Power Confirmed

When there was hardly any talk about the failed AirPower project, a charging base capable of recharging an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods at the same time, the Californian company surprised with the presentation of MagSafe. This is a charger that almost magically adheres to iPhones using magnets and that brings back the defunct brand of classic MacBook chargers. Its ‘Duo’ version, which has not been released yet, will allow iPhone and Apple Watch to be charged at the same time, but it will have a deficiency that was previously suspected.

Load limits for the MagSafe Duo

The first thing to note about the MagSafe Duo, although it was already known a week ago, is that this charger will come without a power adapter in the box , as does the normal MagSafe and the full range of iPhone that Apple sells in its stores. Although it may be strange, it seems that it will already be a common trend in the company in favor, as they explained, of avoiding creating waste that pollutes the environment.

Another bad news could be its price of 149 euros , although this in the end is more subjective, since in the end it is a matter that depends more on the perception of each one and what they are willing to spend. What does seem to be somewhat less controversial is its charging power, which will be limited to 11 watts when using a power adapter such as the official USB-C 20 watt. The maximum it will achieve will be 14 watts in cases where the adapter is 27 watts or more.

In principle, the iPhone 12 mini is expected to accept an even lower power, although without data for the moment. With the MagSafe already launched, this is already happening and that is that the little one in the Apple family this year only charges at 12 watts maximum while the rest support up to 15 watts.

We recall that this MagSafe Duo still has no release date , despite the fact that its information is already available in the Apple Store online. We understand that the product could be imminent and be launched at any time without the need to close the online store to do so, as happens with larger launches such as phones or computers.

What about third-party MagSafe?

More than a trademark, which also, “Magsafe” also refers to the magnet and charging technology used by Apple for its new chargers. This technology is precisely open to other manufacturers creating similar devices and launching them on the market indicating such compatibility.

This in principle is good news in the sense that it opens up an immense range of possibilities , from powerbanks to car chargers. Even in terms of price, benefits could be found. However, we still have the doubt whether the limits established by the original Apple chargers will also be the standard in these or if, on the contrary, they will be able to charge at more power. We will have to wait a little longer to know for sure.
