Lintalist: An Alternative to the Windows Clipboard

When using our Windows computer one of the most useful, simple and practical tasks that we can perform is to copy and paste tasks to the clipboard. In this way we will obtain a great help for the edition or use of files and multimedia elements in an easier way. This useful tool may also be somewhat limited in some situations, so we can use Lintalist for this.

What is Lintalist and what is it for?

Lintalist is an open source clipboard application for Windows that will allow us to store, search and edit texts in certain packages and paste a text that we have selected in your active program. We can use different types of texts, such as interactive, since we can automatically insert the current time and date or make a selection from a list. It is also possible to run a script and use keyboard shortcuts to paste the text without opening the search window.

Lintalist: An Alternative to the Windows Clipboard

With Lintalist we can copy and paste texts in a simple way. We can also assign keywords to a certain text so that only using the key we can paste all the content in the application we are using, be it Word, Notepad, an email, etc.

It is good to know that all texts, shortcuts, abbreviations and scripts are known as snippets and are stored in a package. The package is a simple text file that will make it easier for us to understand and exchange packages between users, being context-sensitive.

With Lintalist we will be able to search for fragments of full text using four different search modes and using abbreviations and shortcuts. It also includes various plugins included by default such as:

  • Return the cursor to the position in the text
  • Insert date and time incl. dates and math time
  • Calendar
  • User input
  • Select item from a list
  • Use clipboard
  • Use selected text
  • Accountants
  • Chain Shards
  • Insert text from file
  • Maths
  • Random selection
  • Split and reuse text
  • Text and images formatted with HTML, Markdown, RTF and image

Launch Lintalist on your computer

Lintalist is a program that does not need to have the window open to be able to be used since it runs permanently in the background . In fact, if we look in the taskbar we will find its logo, that if we click on it, a drop-down menu will appear with direct access to several of its functions. From here we can manage packages, local variables or counters. We can also access its Configuration folder, load or restart all packages, or even access a quick start guide.

Create a cutout

To create a cut we can use the edit menu or press the F7 key. That way the clip editor will appear, which we can use to add new fragments or edit existing ones. Now we introduce the content of the text in part 1, for example: “This is ITIGIC.es”. In part 2 we introduce the content, for example “Software Blog and Help Tutorials”.

Lintalist Package Editor

If we right click on the Lintalist menu a menu of options will appear from which we can Create, delete, edit and move a Snippet, as well as the possibility of accessing the package editor (Manage Bundles). If we click on this option, a new window will appear. From here we can create a new package. From the Properties we can enter the name of the package, as well as a description of it in a mandatory way. Optionally, we can write the name of the author of the package, as well as a comma-separated list of possible matches. Once completed, we must click Save to save the changes. From this window it is also possible to delete packages created by pressing the Delete Bundles button.

Search modes

Lintalist has four available search options that we can activate in the upper right part of the main menu, where we will find four small buttons to select each type of search. We will have Regular, Fuzzy, RegEX and Magic searches . If we use the Regular search, it will take care of finding the exact matches with the keyword. In this way, if we search only Softzone, the results of only Softzone will appear. Fuzzy search also supports similar matches without needing to be exact. With the RegEx option, you also find regular expression search patterns based on the keyword. The Magic search is responsible for displaying results based on the letters of the keyword.
