How to Limit Data on Android to Prevent it from Running Out

Although our operator’s data bonuses are getting bigger, there are still many users who don’t end the month with a single free mega. When this happens, the speed is reduced to prehistoric times, which forces us to desperately seek the protection of a Wi-Fi network. Today we are going to see how to avoid that situation, limiting mobile data on Android.

Having controlled data is the best way to avoid surprises. There are many applications that work in the background and that you can snack on our bonus in a matter of days. To avoid this, it is best to limit the data by setting a cap that acts as a firewall . At this point, we can better decide and control what to do and how to manage the remaining data, but we will avoid the surprise of suddenly finding ourselves without it.

How to put a cap

Setting an automatic limit will automatically disable mobile data when the set border is reached. In order to do this we will have to go to Settings / Networks and Internet / Data use. Now we will have to click on the option “Define data limit” and tap on OK . Now it only remains to enter a number, being able to define concretely between MB or GB. Then we tap on “Set” As we say, if the set limit is reached, the mobile data will stop so we will avoid surprises. When we reach this limit we will receive a notification on the mobile. To reactivate mobile data we will only have to follow the previous steps and deactivate the option Define data limit.

Set an alarm

The previous option is the most effective, but if it seems somewhat abrupt and we only want to have accurate information on the data that we are spending, we can configure an alarm to notify us when we reach a certain point of data expenditure. In this way, the flow of mobile data will not be interrupted, but we will be equally informed.

To do this we have to go back to Settings and tap on Networks and Internet / Data Use. Now we tap on Mobile Data Usage and click on Data Warning. In the Define data warning section, we can enter a number of MB or GB that we consider appropriate. Generally, it should be well before the limit of our monthly bonus, so that we have time to take action on its use if necessary. Likewise, when the use of mobile data reaches the established level, we will receive a notice.

Take control

A good way to keep track, if we see that the expense of our mobile data has skyrocketed is to see what application may be causing it. For this we open Settings / Networks and Internet / Data use. Then, in the “Mobile” section, the total amount of data we use is shown. To see how much data each application uses, we will only have to look at the information that appears below the graph.

Cap apps

If we have detected that an app is consuming too much mobile data, we will have two options. The first thing and if your expense is excessive is to completely uninstall it. In the case of an app for daily use or essential for us, we will have the option to restrict the use of background data for this and other applications.

To activate this option we will have to go back to Settings / Networks and Internet / Data use. Then we will have to scroll down to find the specific application to which we want to limit the use of data in the background. In order to restrict the use of data, we will have to deactivate the Background data option. Keep in mind that this eliminates the possibility of the app connecting to the network in the background, so we may not receive information about it until you activate it again.
