How to Limit Bandwidth on Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive

Cloud storage has become a widely used option by users. We have many platforms such as Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive that allow us to host all kinds of documents and files on the Internet. In this way we will always have them available at all times, as well as from any device. We can also share them with other users in a simple way. However, sometimes we can have speed problems when uploading or downloading files. We will explain how we can limit the bandwidth that these tools will use.

How to avoid speed problems when going up or down in the cloud

As we say, uploading or downloading files from the cloud is a very common task. There are many platforms that we have available, but we are going to focus on three of the most popular. These are Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox. Its operation is very similar. They allow us to host files and be able to access them from any device through applications, as well as in the web version.

Limit Bandwidth on Dropbox, OneDrive or Drive

We can use it to create backup copies, save documents to always have them at hand, share files with friends or family, etc. Now, sometimes when we want to upload very heavy files, such as a folder full of photos, we can see that the speed is not the most appropriate. The same happens when we are going to download a folder that has been shared with us.

The problems that cause this loss of speed can be very diverse. Some will be in our power to solve them and others not. We are going to give some tips to try that both the upload and download speeds do not affect our connections.

Set download or upload speed

It is common that in this type of applications we have the possibility to configure the speed limit both when downloading and uploading files. This can be interesting if we do not want a slow connection to be saturated sometimes and we have problems. However, it could also limit downloads and uploads.

In OneDrive , for example, we can change these parameters. To do this we go to the application, we go to Settings and Help, we go to Settings and then the Network tab. There we will see the option to limit both the upload and download speeds. If we do not want there to be any limit, we simply check the Do not limit option. We can also adjust it automatically or assign a value.

Configurar la velocidad en OneDrive

Something similar can be found in Dropbox . Once we open the application we can go to Preferences and click on Bandwidth. There we will find the same values to change: limit or not the download or upload speed. There we can put a value that interests us, in case our Internet speed is limited and we want to avoid problems.

Limitar el ancho de banda en Dropbox

Finally, another widely used platform is Google Drive . Here we can also configure the application to limit the speed of both downloading and uploading files. If we see that when it comes to synchronizing folders, our connection is greatly affected, we see that we cannot navigate correctly, perhaps it is best to limit that speed.

To do this you have to enter Configuration and go to Network Configuration. There we will automatically see the Bandwidth Configuration option. We can put a limit on the download speed and also the upload speed.

Configurar ancho de banda en Google Drive

In short, as we have seen, it is very easy to configure the bandwidth in Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive. The objective with this is to avoid that when it comes to sharing files, downloading those folders that have been shared with us, our Internet connection is saturated. This could happen for example if we connect via wireless networks with little coverage and the speed is therefore very slow. It could affect our navigation and have problems. Luckily we can avoid it since the three cloud storage tools allow it to be done.
