LibreOffice 7.1, News and Download of the First Beta

LibreOffice 7.1

LibreOffice is one of the office suites that most closely stands up to Microsoft Office. This suite, developed by The Document Foundation , is characterized by being a totally free and open source suite, offering users a word processor, a spreadsheet and a presentation software that satisfy most of the needs of its users . This office suite is constantly evolving, and for a few hours we have been able to know what are the news that the next version 7.1 of the suite will bring.

After several months of development, the implementation of new functions and features in LibreOffice 7.1 has now come to an end. With the arrival of the first beta of version 7.1 we can know what will be the most important changes that will come with this new version that, initially, will reach all users next February.

Main changes and new features of LibreOffice 7.1

The spell checker is one of the strongest points of Microsoft Office, and although many have tried it, no one finishes offering the speed and precision that the Microsoft suite offers. The Document Foundation has spent the last few months working on precisely this, trying to become a serious rival for Microsoft in this regard.

The new version 7.1 of LibreOffice now includes a much faster and more accurate spell check engine. This is possible thanks to a synchronous analysis, which helps to avoid inactive drivers in the review and to avoid invalidations. In addition, a cache system has begun to be used, which significantly accelerates performance.

Another important change, also related to speed, is found in searches. The search function has been carrying a bug for years that seriously affected the performance of this function, slowing down searches from 5 seconds to 20, in the worst case, with large files. Thanks to a number of changes and improvements, find and replace now takes less than half the time to complete.

Other important changes that we can find in the first beta of LibreOffice 7.1 are:

Writer:

  • Scheme folding mode (experimental).
  • New table formulas.
  • Style inspector.
  • New input fields.
  • Unicode detection.

Calc:

  • Possibility of filling with merged cells.
  • Improvements in auto-fill.
  • Changes to the INDIRECT function.
  • General fixes and optimizations.

Impress:

  • New physics-based object animation system.
  • Console improvements.
  • Changes and optimizations.

Finally, changes, corrections and optimizations have also been made in the core of the program.

Download LibreOffice 7.1 Beta

This new version is already in beta, available to any user who wants to try it to start enjoying all its news. We can download this latest version for free, as always, from this link . It is available for Windows, macOS and Linux, so we can download it regardless of the system we use.

Of course, we must remember that it is a beta version, a version that can have errors and work in an unstable way. It is only recommended to use this beta for testing purposes, never to use it as the main one, as it can spoil our user experience.

The Document Foundation is continuing to work on the final version of this update. The first Release Candidate could arrive next month, while the final version of the suite would be seen around February 2021.
