LG G8 ThinQ vs LG G8s ThinQ: Comparison

Although they may seem similar smartphones, in the LG G8s ThinQ we find important changes and features regarding the LG G8 ThinQ . The first thing we will do before knowing its characteristics is to explain the meaning of the “s” that causes so many doubts among users.

This small addition refers to the Smart Green surnames with which LG has shown its commitment to reforest the Alto Tajo Park in Guadalajara with 1.5 million trees. This idea comes to Spain with the intention of raising awareness and helping, but with some small changes between both terminals.

Design and screen

In the design section we are faced with two terminals that may seem very similar to us, but in its front part we already notice certain differences since in the notch of the LG G8s it grows to make room for the ToF sensor with which our selfies, the portrait mode and other functions will improve markedly. The LG G8s screen is also larger , specifically 6.21 inches, compared to 6.1 inches of the LG G8, both are OLED with a QHD + resolution.

Its body is built in both models in glass with a slightly higher weight in the LG G8s to also have a size that also grows. Its camera module is similar, although with the important leap of quality in the LG G8s to have one more lens, as we will see later.

Processor and configuration, traced aspects

In this section the LG company has not made changes, making us find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor in both models and a storage configuration of 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. As an extra point we find in both the option to expand the memory through the different MicroSD cards that can reach up to 2 TB.

A camera changes everything

In its rear part both include a main lens of 12 Mpx with f / 1.5 aperture, in addition to a secondary lens for the wide angle of 13 Mpx . But the LG G8s also includes a telephoto lens that gives us greater versatility with its 12 Mpx and optical zoom.

In the front, the front camera remains at 8 Mpx in both cases, although as we mentioned the principle, the LG G8s adds a 3D ToF sensor that will allow us to obtain a better portrait mode, adjust the blur level and better recognition of the movements we can do with our hands on both models. These movements can be used to switch songs, upload music or switch between photos.

LG G8s

With both of us we have the possibility to record 4K video , perform continuous shooting, autofocus and slow motion video of 120 fps.

Batteries, connectivity and operating system

Both the battery and its connectivity are identical, since both include 3,500 mAh that should be enough to face the day. We can charge it with fast charging through its USB Type C port, use Bluetooth 5.0 and 4G networks and also find audio jack on both.

Its advanced sound system under the screen allows us to enjoy DTS: X 3D technology without finding speakers in your body. On the other hand, the operating system is currently Android 10 since they have already updated both models, in addition to adding their slight customization layer called UX 9.0

Prices and conclusions

First of all we must bear in mind that the LG G8 is not intended for the Spanish market and therefore it will be very difficult for us to get hold of it. The best option is undoubtedly the LG G8s ThinQ where we find an important evolutionary leap in its rear, front cameras and a larger screen.

LG G8s ThinQ

In addition, we must not forget LG’s commitment to one of the most important forests in Spain, a work with which we will be contributing if we choose the LG G8s as our new smartphone. A model that we can find for 420 euros, being one of the high-end that has dropped the most and a highly recommended option.
