Kodi 19.1: What’s New and How to Download or Update

3 months ago, Kodi developers released the new version 19.0 of this multimedia center. This has been one of the most controversial versions in the entire development of this program. When moving from Python 2 (which was unsupported) to Python 3 , dozens of extensions (especially the most popular ones) stopped working. Developers must collect their extensions to make them work in the new version, but since many of them have been abandoned for a long time, after the arrival of this new version, they have gone down in history. Now, to continue improving the program, its managers have just launched the new Kodi 19.1 .

No matter how much time you spend testing and debugging a program, there will always be errors, bugs and possible improvements in the code. Thus, the new Kodi 19.1 “Matrix” leads to correct the main problems detected in version 19.0 of this multimedia center. A version that any user of this program should install as soon as possible.

Kodi 19.1: What's New

Changes, news and improvements in Kodi 19.1

The new version 19.1 of this program has not come with major changes and new features like the previous version, but it is a maintenance update focused on debugging and improving the general operation of the program.

The first of the changes that we find is an improvement when working on HTTP and NFS networks. The Chorus2 component of the program interface has also been updated. And the file system cache has been improved to automatically buffer Kodi on network file systems and to improve error handling.

On Windows, support has been added for the WS-Discovery protocol used to discover and explore SMBv3 folders on the network, and a new information panel has been added to the Debug Info Player .

The rest of the changes are bug fixes to improve the overall performance of the program. Some of the most important corrections that we can find in this new version are:

  • Video: VP9 codec now detects HDR metadata and fixes various bugs on HDR10.
  • Discs: DVD playback works again in Linux and we can skip chapters on Blu-Rays.
  • PVR: contextual menu accessible when using simple controls, improvements in the names of the channels, correction of errors in the EPG.
  • Music Library: Fixed a bug that caused only the first song of imported discs to be included.
  • Subtitles – Various improvements and fixes in the ASS format.
  • Android: various fixes in SMB.
  • Windows: Fixed multiple green and black screens when playing videos, added support for VS2019 and VS2017 at the same time, and fixed problems with the anonymous user when using SMB.

Download or update the media center

The first thing to keep in mind is that, this time, version 19.1 does not break compatibility with anything that already worked in version 19.0 of this multimedia center. Therefore, after the disgust and problems that appeared with this version, everything goes back to its new course.

This new version is now available to all users, and, as always, for free. We can download the new Kodi 19.1 from this link . If we already have a previous version installed, we can install this new version on top to keep the configuration and addons installed.

If we want to keep it simple, and we have Windows 10, we can download the version from the Microsoft Store, and let the store be in charge of updating it.
