Microsoft updates its PowerToys for Windows 10

Specifically, we mean that just a few hours ago the company released a new version of these open source tools for its operating system. Thus, the new PowerToys 0.18.0 add two new functions that will surely appeal to many. We are talking about a key manager, in addition to an application launcher that we will detail in these same lines. These, as it is easy to imagine, join the collection of programs already existing to date, here.

Both newly launched programs require Windows 10 in its 1903 or newer version to function. The development of these PowerToys has been carried out since last September 2019 and until now several versions of them have been released with the arrival of new tools. So we already have some like Power Rename , Image Resizer, Window Walker, etc.

New additions from Microsoft coming to Windows

On the one hand and as we mentioned, we find a new keyboard manager called Keyboard Manager . This will allow us to redo the function of certain individual keys in the operating system. At the same time and thanks to all this, we will have the opportunity to customize various keyboard shortcuts of our own. It should be mentioned that this functionality is only active if the function as such runs in the background on the system.

In order to reassign a key or shortcut, we select the mentioned new tool from the PowerToys list. Thus, we will find the functions called Remap keyboard and Remap Shortcuts. Say that both options work more or less the same way. In these we select the option that we want from the keyboard, to which we assign a new default task. Please note that there does not appear to be any limitation on key remapping or shortcuts. Keyboard manager PowerToys

On the other hand we find PowerToys Run , a program launcher that users of the software can activate with the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut. Thus, we only have to write the name of the application in question, a folder or file that we want to launch, and select it from the list of results.

For its part, the program also searches for running processes and incorporates the functionality of Windows Walker that seems to have disappeared from this latest version of PowerToys. Say that this new functionality returns a total of maximum four results by default. This is something that can be changed in the program options.

Therefore, as we can see, Microsoft continues to work on its PowerToys that you can download , which is liked by many Windows 10 users. All this provides us with additional functionality to improve the experience with the operating system, which will never hurt. In addition, they integrate perfectly into Windows in the event that we choose to install and use them.
