Safari is one of the applications that are installed on the iPhone, being Apple‘s Internet browser that is also present in other operating systems of the brand. It is usually the most recommended for reasons of efficiency and speed, but obviously it is not mandatory to use it and, if you have any other preferred option, you may be thinking of uninstalling it.
Well, answering the question in one, we will tell you that it cannot be eliminated . It is true that there are applications such as Mail, Music and many others that, despite being native to Apple, can be deleted. However, Safari is one of those that cannot be uninstalled in any way from the system. Apple understands that it is essential to have a browser for certain tasks and, even if you already have others installed, it does not allow its removal.
And beware, because this is not an exclusive novelty of iOS either. On iPadOS and macOS it is also not possible to remove this app for similar reasons. However, we can find options that allow Safari to be left in the background and give other browsers more relevance and work by default.
You can choose another default browser
As we already told you, the iPhone allows you to set another browser other than Safari to be the default. This means that every time you go to open a link in another application, it will open with that other browser instead of Safari.
To do this, simply follow these steps:
- Open Settings.
- Choose the browser you want to define as default and click on it.
- Go to the “Default browser app” section.
- Click on that application.
Another tip in this regard to avoid Safari is to perform the action of removing the application, since, although it will not allow you to uninstall it, it will allow you to remove it from the main screen and only access it from the Apps Library.
What is the best alternative?
At ITIGIC, based on experience we have had over the years, we believe that Safari is the best option. Now, ignoring this for obvious reasons, we can find very interesting alternatives to Safari on iOS . And although the list is extensive and all of them have interesting functions, there are two that we would keep: DuckDuckGo and Google Chrome.
Starting with the second, Google’s, we think it is a good option because it is one of the most used browsers in the world. If you use a Google account, it will be very useful to be able to have all your data synchronized. However, DuckDuckGo is characterized by being a very secure and private browsing option, inheriting a large part of the privacy policies that Apple itself maintains in its browser.
The existence of browsers such as TOR Browser is also notable. The fame of this comes from being the best known option to access the Dark Web with a VPN. However, it already has a series of secure encryption protocols that make it a good option. Although, in our opinion, in normal browsing we still prefer Safari, Chrome or DuckDuckGo.
