Every time Apple releases a new version of iOS or an expected patch, it is normal for millions of users to want to update as soon as possible. However, software updates are also not without problems, which can happen at the worst time and lead many iPhone owners head-first. For this reason we wanted to review the main problems that can occur during an iOS update and how to avoid it.

Problems when Updating iOS

You don’t need to remember the importance of operating system updates. When it comes to a new version, our iPhone will be filled with new features and will improve some already present. However, many patches are released to correct known errors or improve the overall stability of the system, hence the importance of keeping our mobile up to date in this regard.

Problems updating the iPhone

Not enough space

In case of not having enough space to download and install an update, the software of our iPhone will try to free up space automatically . Keep in mind that only the data of apps that can be re-downloaded will be deleted and no personal data will be deleted or relocated. We can also free up space to help update, removing content and apps that we no longer use from the device. For this we go to Settings / General / Storage and select the software that we can do without.

Download takes a long time

Do not forget that you need an internet connection to update your device. The time it takes to update will largely depend on the size of the update and the speed of the connection. We can continue to use the mobile device normally while you download the update, but it is recommended to interrupt activities that may limit bandwidth, such as other downloads or online games.

It never ends

Another bug causes the update progress bar to move too slowly or never finish updating. In that case, we must plug the iPhone into a power source to ensure that the update completes and we run out of battery. We can also deactivate and reactivate Wi-Fi and test with mobile data. If the mobile phone is turned off or restarted, the update will continue where we left off.

If nothing works

In that case we will be able to carry out a series of steps, in order to bring the update to fruition and complete it without problems. For this we must go to Settings / General / Storage. Now we look for the update in the list of apps. Click on it and select “Delete” Then we have to go to Settings / General / Software Updates and download the latest update again.

Update from the computer

It is the last solution in many cases. If we cannot do it wirelessly, we can always update our iPhone manually using the computer. To do this on a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15, we open the Finder, while on a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier version or on a PC, we will have to open iTunes.
