The iPad mini could be announced today at the Apple event, accompanying not only the iPad Pro but the 9th generation iPad. Many of the fans of the smallest tablet on the block were betting on a change in the design of this team that would make it comparable to the new times, but in recent weeks and more specifically in recent hours it has been leaked that there could be scarce changes in this regard. What will the iPad mini 6 be like then?
Does an iPad mini 6 make sense with this design?
With the arrival of the iPhone ‘Plus’ first and later with the iPhone ‘Pro Max’, it seemed that this ‘mini’ range of iPad was destined to disappear. Nothing is further from reality, since in 2019 Apple presented a fifth generation in which the classic design was maintained and interesting performance improvements were added. It was even given compatibility with the Apple Pencil again increasing its chances of being an ideal iPad for students. However, this outlook in 2021 looks complicated.
First it was Sony Dickson who published a photograph on his Twitter account two weeks ago of an alleged iPad mini 6 with an identical design to the current ones and now 9to5Mac who echo identical forecasts by Wedbush analysts. They affirmed that it would be equipped with a powerful A14 Bionic chip, which considerably exceeds the A12 that current models mount. However, this makes us wonder if it is reason enough to renew it, since the performance of the A12 is still excellent and for a terminal with this approach it seems more than enough.
If this processor change finally came with a design change that allows optimizing the front with fewer frames and adding a feature such as Touch ID under the screen (something that was rumored months ago) it could make more sense. It seems absurd, at least in our opinion, to re-launch this iPad without making a change in line with what the iPad Air 2020 did.
No surprises for the 9th generation iPad
The normal iPad could today reach its ninth version with a design that will change with respect to its most recent generation launched in September, but without being something new in the Apple tablet landscape. It is expected that its components are practically identical to what was the iPad Air of 2019 at the time and it is from this range that the Apple iPad is taking its novelties in subsequent years. Therefore it would come with a retina panel of 10.5 inches by the 10.2 that it currently has. It remains to be seen if it makes the leap to the A13 Bionic chip, since it currently has the A12 that already had that aforementioned iPad Air at the time.
