Risks of installing a beta on iPhone or iPad
You should bear in mind that you are about to install a first beta of iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. These are only intended for developers for many reasons. The most important is that it is an unstable version and therefore has many bugs. Some of these bugs can be serious and cloud the user experience, such as the constant lag to open an application or the incompatibility of any of them. That is why you must always be careful because you can get a bad experience that will not correspond to the experience that Apple wants to offer. The most recommended version to install is the final version that will arrive at the end of the year.
But if you are still determined to install the developer beta without being a developer, we recommend doing it on a computer that you do not use on a daily basis. If you have an old iPhone or iPad you can use it as a second device and test the betas here. This way you make sure that a bug does not make your battery decrease quickly or a bug prevents you from working day to day correctly.
We can also recommend having a little patience, and wait for the beta for public beta testers. You can sign up to test the iOS and iPadOS betas in the official Apple program and you will receive versions that are somewhat more stable than that of developers. But it’s still a beta anyway. These public betas may take up to a month until those major software bugs are resolved.
Back up
As we have previously mentioned, installing an iOS or iPadOS beta can be linked to manifesting many errors. To exit the beta you always have to re-establish the system completely, and that is why you always have to have a backup of the system. This way you will avoid losing all the content you have on your iPhone or iPad. You can easily back up to iCloud by following these steps:
- On the iPhone or iPad go to Settings.
- Click on your photo at the top.
- Go to ‘iCloud’.
- Scroll down until you see the option ‘Copy to iCloud’ and click on these.
- Click on ‘Backup now’.
This will start everyone to save all the important files in your iCloud account as documents or the settings you have. If you have to remove the beta of iOS 14 you can not lose any thanks to this backup that you must make prior to installation.
Beta of iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 without being a developer
The installation process of this beta is really simple, since you simply have to install the developer profile that you will find in one of the recommended websites.
- With the same device to which you want to install the beta, iPhone or iPad, you must go to the betaprofiles website.
- In the different cards that you will find, look for iOS (the profile of iOS and iPadOS is identical).
- Press the blue ‘Download’ button and it will ask you for permission to download the developer profile.
- Go to Settings> General> Profile and accept the conditions to install it.
- Restart the device.
- Go to Settings> General> Software update and the beta of iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 will be ready for download and installation.
