Causes of not being able to send or receive SMS

Complete SIM registration

Operators can sometimes block the SMS service if the SIM registration information does not match the identity document. It is one of the first tests that we must do and in this case, contact our operator.

Message identified as Spam

If the message contains offensive content or if the same message has been sent too many times, the operator may have blocked the SMS, marking it as “Spam”.

Are you blacklisted?

If in the past we have added any number to the black list, we will not be able to receive or send messages to those numbers. To check it, we will have to enter the Manager / Blocked and click on Black List. We can remove a contact from the black list by opening contacts and holding down the contact. Then we touch on “Remove from the black list”

Third party app

Sometimes when installing a third-party security application, it has a spam filter . If so, we must uninstall the application and try again.

Busy networks

It is one of the most common causes. Networks can be busy during peak messaging hours or on holidays. In this case, we can only wait a few minutes and try again.

From an iPhone

If the text message was sent to us by an iPhone, it may have been sent by iMessage. This requires that our mobile is linked to an Apple ID and is the cause of not receiving it.

If nothing works, other solutions

  • Reset messages application to default values: it is done from Messages / Settings and click on reset settings
  • Disable and re-enable Airplane mode. Then we try again.
  • If the VoLTE selector has been activated for the SIM card you are using, we will have to deactivate it and try again.
  • In the case of using a third-party SMS messaging application, the problem may be due to an incompatibility with this application. In this case, we go to Settings, enter Default applications, and mark Messages as default.
  • If a red exclamation mark appears in the SMS message that could not be sent, press and hold the message, go to More> View details, and contact your operator to report the error code.
