The future of Huawei‘s mobile division, at least in the West, continues to show an uncertain future . The blow delivered by the US veto continues to take its toll, causing Huawei smartphone shipments to fall by up to 30% by the end of 2020. Meanwhile, and after months of obstacles, Huawei may have seen the first beam of light at the end of the tunnel , according to the latest information coming from China.
With the present sanctions by the Trump administration, Huawei is prohibited from acquiring or manufacturing processors , as long as they use American technology. This new veto has made Huawei’s situation worse, to the point of seriously endangering the continuity of the Kirin chips, as we have seen previously.
Business resumes
However, Huawei could have gotten good news after months of dark clouds. According to reports from China “The Financial Associated Press”, the American company Intel has received a license to do business with Huawei. Initially, this news would only affect the Chinese firm’s laptop division, which may have Intel processors, but it opens the door for the same to happen in its mobile phone division.
Recall that Qualcomm has also requested the same license, in order to continue operating with Huawei. However, there is no news about it yet. However, it seems that pressure from large American companies, which have seen their business shrink, is paying off. This news opens a possible escape route for Huawei to receive the expected oxygen balloon it needs for the survival of its mobile division in the West, which in any case has been seriously affected.
Could set a precedent
If the news is confirmed, it would add to the recent news about AMD, and its temporary license to do business with Chinese companies that are on the US blacklist. With this background, Qualcomm and other North American companies could claim the same deal and the ban on deals with Huawei could be reopened.
Meanwhile, the Chinese company has yet to unveil the new Mate 40 , as its next big launches. The latest bets place its presentation in the middle of next October, since like other companies and adding its obstacles due to the veto, the company has also suffered delays in the production of its new devices, which once again will arrive without Google Services.
