How to use Quick Share on a Samsung Galaxy mobile

Mobile devices are counting on different functions that make them increasingly essential objects in our daily use, from watching videos to being able to share files from our smartphone. For example, following this last function, we find one of those tools that Android mobiles have, and in particular, Samsung terminals that help us transmit content of all kinds, how and when we want, known as Quick Share.

In addition, in these phones, we will not only have the functionality known as we have just said, but, in some cases, we will be able to enjoy much more.

Quick Share on a Samsung Galaxy mobile

Basically, we are dealing with a functionality that, surely, more than one uses several times a day to be able to send all kinds of multimedia files that you want to any contact in your phone book, or even strangers. In addition, thanks to this function of the Korean firm’s mobiles, content can be transmitted quickly and directly just by accepting a simple notification.

What is QuickShare

This tool, which comes with the Korean brand’s mobile phones, is the South Korean brand’s alternative to Apple‘s fast file delivery system, the famous AirDrop. What does it mean? Basically, and in a nutshell, this is a function with which we can quickly share any photo, video, song or link between two Samsung devices. Of course, as long as they are close to each other.

If you have used an iPhone in your life, you will realize that its use system is very similar to that of the aforementioned AirDrop . Therefore, both devices will use Bluetooth to be able to create a network between them, to which they will connect quickly. And how could it be otherwise, this network will have a firewall, so an extra security will also be added. And not only this, but the files will be sent encrypted, so that no one will be able to intercept our information halfway.

To be able to send or receive files, both the user who wants to transmit said content and the one who wants to have it on their mobile phone, will need to have Quick Share activated . Does your phone have it?

Do all Samsung phones have it?

The truth is that the smartphones of the Asian firm have many functionalities to be able to send any element, although this is one of those really interesting options that will give us the possibility of sharing very heavy content with almost anyone. And it is that we will not always be able to use this feature. More than anything, because it is limited to those users of the firm that have this functionality on their smartphone.

This functionality began to be used with the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S20, although it is already available for the previous Galaxy series once we have updated it to Android 10 at least. In other words, all those terminals from the Korean firm that have that software version should be able to enjoy this data transmission tool. If you have a 2019 phone, you probably don’t have this feature.

Therefore, if you do not have this feature, do not worry, because the Samsung Galaxy have different options to share content. However, by using this function we will be able to send multimedia files almost immediately to anyone who has a device of the Korean brand.

activate it

In the event that you do have this functionality of Korean mobiles, which is used to transfer files, you can always start enjoying this technology on your device of the South Korean brand, following the following steps:

Quick Share Samsung

  • Access the quick settings panel of your smartphone by sliding your finger from the top of the screen.
  • Find the Quick Share feature and tap on it.

This would be the fastest way. Although, we will also have the option of entering the Settings app on our smartphone and using the quick configuration search engine. Once there, we will have to write the name of this tool and go on to enable it on our mobile device.

How is it used

In the options menu, in addition to choosing that any user can share multimedia elements, we can choose that only our contacts can do so. Although, there is also another interesting option, which allows us to send videos and images to other manufacturer’s devices, such as Smart TVs or others.

And the fact is that, for this very reason, it has become a very useful tool for users of Samsung devices, since thanks to it we can share, above all, videos and images in a matter of seconds with friends and acquaintances.

When we have it enabled, to make use of this feature we will have to follow the following steps:

  • Launch the Gallery app and select an image or video that you want to send to another person.
  • Tap Quick Share and select a specific mobile device to transfer the image to. If the device to which we want to send the file in question is not in the list, you will have to check that the function of the device to which you want to send the content is enabled by opening the quick settings panel.
  • Finally, we will only have to accept the file transfer request on the other mobile device.

Within this functionality that we find in the smartphones of the Korean company, we will also have different settings that will help us configure it more to our needs.

First of all, we will have the option to establish who will be able to find our mobile device through this functionality every time we have it activated.

And, secondly, we can set who we want to appear each time we want to share multimedia files through this feature of the Samsung Galaxy. That is, if we want them to be all kinds of people, that they have a mobile phone from the Korean firm. Or, on the contrary, we only want those users that we have saved among the contacts in the smartphone agenda to appear.

Ajustes Quick Share Samsung

To do this, we will have to open the quick settings panel and press and hold on the Quick Share function to access this functionality. Then, it will send us directly to your configuration. Among them, we will have the possibility to choose ‘ Who can share with you ?’:

  • Only contacts : allows only your contacts to send you any type of multimedia file.
  • Everyone – Allows any Samsung mobile device near you to share content with you.

In addition, we will not only have this small choice when it comes to who can share content with us through this feature. More than anything, because within its configuration menu we can change the name of our Samsung mobile device , that is, the name that will appear every time someone searches for our smartphone to send multimedia files. This same name will be the one your smartphone uses when you use Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct, and other methods to send files to other phones.

Because it does not work?

Samsung makes this very clear in the instructions for use. By using this tool, the Samsung Galaxy user can share content with nearby devices of the company using, as we have already said, the Wi-Fi Direct or Bluetooth tools. What happens is that any brand phone that makes use of this technology allows only one device connection through Quick Share.

This means that if we have other content sharing tools running through these networks, such as a Wi-Fi access point, it will not work properly.

To fix this, it is best to disable Quick Share first and then disable any type of tool, as Mobile Hotspot or Wi-Fi Direct cannot be run at the same time. Once turned off, simply turn Quick Share back on and try to share files with other users again.

The Alternative: Nearby Share

Having a Samsung or Apple device is not synonymous with exclusivity. The rest of the Android phones incorporate a system very similar to the one we have seen throughout this publication and that everyone knows as Nearby Share . The way this tool works is really similar and it doesn’t hide many differences. In fact, the Korean brand’s own terminals integrate this feature, although if the connection is to be carried out between two of its mobiles, it is advisable to take advantage of the virtues of the Samsung program to achieve greater efficiency. Remember that we just said that if you use one technology, you will not be able to use the other because it will fail.

In terms of use, we are talking about a totally identical procedure, since you have to follow the steps set out below:

  1. Activate Nearby from the mobile settings. Its location is usually the “Connection and sharing” section, although it can also appear in “Additional settings”.
  2. Go to the gallery and select a file you want to transfer.
  3. In the lower options bar, choose “Share” and right after the Nearby tool.
  4. The smartphone will start searching for a nearby device with which to exchange data. Of course, remember to use Bluetooth for it.
  5. When it shows your partner’s mobile, click on it to start the process.
  6. On the other hand, if you are the one waiting to receive a file, a notification will appear on your screen to inform you about it.

As you can see, it does not hide much mystery and there is not a huge difference compared to Quick Share. Among the configuration of this property you can also modify the name by which the rest of the users will see your device, as well as limit the recognition of the rest of the people to only the contacts that you have in the terminal’s agenda. Remember to enable this tool only when you intend to transfer documents. In this way, no one can try to transfer a malicious file to your smartphone.
