If you have two iPads in your possession, or want to share documents with someone else’s iPad, you should know that there are many methods to do it. Thanks to the Apple ecosystem this task can be greatly simplified. In this article we tell you all the methods that you can use to transfer files between several iPads.
iCloud backup
In the case you have a new iPad and you want to transfer the files from the previous iPad, the most comfortable thing is to make a security that can be restored. That is, you will make a backup on the old computer and you can restore it on your new computer. The problem is that you will need spare space contracted in the Apple cloud to make the copy or a computer to make it locally. In case you have plenty of space in the cloud, you can perform the backup by following these steps:
- Go to Settings.
- Click on your name at the top.
- Go to the ‘iCloud’ section.
- Click on ‘iCloud Backup’.
- Click on ‘Backup now’.
Throughout the process you must stay connected to a WiFi website to avoid consuming your data rate. But in case you do not have enough space in the Apple cloud, you can make the backup with the computer by following these steps:
- Connect iPad to Mac or PC.
- Search Finder for Mac or iTunes if you are on PC, your device.
- Click on the ‘Back up now’ box.
Once you have the backup, you simply have to transfer it to your new iPad. To do it you simply have to start it and in the initial configuration the system will ask you how you want to transfer the apps and data to the new iPad. Among all the options that arise, you must select ‘Restore with copy of iCloud’ or ‘Restore from Mac or PC’. Once the process is finished you will see how the data you had on the old iPad is transferred to the new iPad.
Through iCloud Drive
The Apple ecosystem has many positive things and one of them is the transfer of data and files through the cloud. A folder can be created on an iPad with certain information inside it such as documents and it will automatically be in the ‘Files’ application of the other iPad. Obviously both devices are required to have the same Apple ID for them to be interconnected. The problem is the same as we have previously discussed and is that you must have enough space in the iCloud Drive cloud for it to work properly. You also need to have a powerful enough connection so that you can upload the files to the cloud and see them reflected on the secondary iPad. The most recommendable is, without a doubt, to be connected to a WiFi network, since if it is being carried out through mobile data, it will enter a saving mode that will possibly make this transfer difficult.
Once you have the files on the second iPad, they can be viewed and downloaded through the native app called ‘Files’. You can work with them or move them freely to the internal memory of the device or through different folders in the iCloud Drive cloud.
Transfer via AirDrop
In the past, the transfer of files between computers was done through Bluetooth connectivity that connected two devices. This Apple has kept it within its ecosystem with AirDrop . Thanks to AirDrop you can easily transfer any data or file between devices that are linked to the same Apple ID or have a different one.
In order to transfer any document between two iPads, you simply have to choose it and click on the share button, which is characterized by being a square with an up arrow. Among the compatible applications ‘AirDrop’ will appear and here you will be able to see all the equipment around you where it can be transferred. It is important to have Bluetooth activated so that the files can be transferred.
Use of third party services
There are different third-party services that work the same as Apple’s cloud, iCloud Drive. Google Drive is one of the most famous that will allow you to create a folder on one of the iPads and enter the files you want. Once they are transferred you can go to the second iPad and install the application and log in with the same Google account. Once this is done you will be able to see the contents you have wanted to transfer.
In addition to Google Drive, you’ll also find Microsoft‘s OneDrive. The operation is practically identical since you have to download the application and log in to both devices with the same account. The file transfer will depend on the quality of the connection, and it has to be mainly through WiFi.
