The mobile phone is always with us everywhere and that allows us to use it for many needs, which are expanded with each new version of the operating system. With Android 11 a new emergency system is added to mobiles, which allows us to do much more than we did previously. In addition, the options to add emergency information are maintained on all Android phones regardless of the layer.
In order to activate this function that allows us to send the location in cases of emergency we inevitably need Android 11, although it could be expanded to previous versions soon, since we do not need great requirements. Its use is very simple and it can be integrated with all the customization layers, the only thing we need to know is the method to activate it, which can be difficult to find but not so much to configure.
Activate and start using personal security on Android
To take the protection of users further, Google has added an extra option to the Settings> Security> Emergencies section that takes us directly to the personal security application on Android. In case we don’t like it, we can download personal security on Google Play , as long as our smartphone already has Android 11.
Once we are inside the app, we only have to click on the “Start configuration” button and it will request permission to access the location, as well as Google Maps. Once we have completed all the necessary steps, we only have to go back to the beginning of the app and click on the red emergency button. A menu will be displayed to send the location on Android to the emergency contacts that we will show you how to configure below.
How to add emergency contacts on Android
For this tool to work we have to choose our emergency contacts, which we will then have to choose when sending the location. There is no other way to do it and if we do not have an emergency contact set up, this option will not work. What we have to do is the following:
- We enter configuration and then phone information.
- Now we access the Emergency Information option.
- Finally, we click on add contact and choose one of the ones we have in the agenda.
What alert and information does the contact receive?
Once we have sent the emergency alert to the contacts we have chosen, they will receive an SMS on their mobile phone through the RCS messages function. As we show you in the image, the SMS will allow you to access the Google Maps link to check the location of the contact and thus be able to go to it.
