TransferXL security and sending encrypted files
Rather than encryption on the server side only, TransferXL provides encryption from the browser . This means that the files you are sending are already encrypted before they are sent to the Internet.
However, if we are using a cloud server, the upload process is not (necessarily) encrypted and the password used for encryption must also be passed back and forth between the client and the server. Therefore, the risks increase compared to how TransferXL does it. This is ideal for sending sensitive material such as a passport scan, driver’s license, financial, medical or legal information.
If we go to the “Encryption” option, we can enable it. By default, TransferXL will suggest a random secure key, which we can later copy to the clipboard. We have to get this password to the recipient in the best possible way, so that only he can access these files.
In case of forgetting the password, TransferXL will not be able to recover said password, since they do not store the password, but the key never leaves your browser, so their web servers never know the password that we have entered.
