How to Save Space on Apple Watch

Save Space on Apple Watch

The internal storage of an Apple Watch can be a problem, especially when the obnoxious message that you have exceeded the established limit pops up. In this article we explain how you can optimize it by deleting files or applications that you do not use regularly.

Storage limitation on Apple Watch

Apple watches do not stand out for having a large storage capacity, not exceeding 50 GB. This is logical since an Apple Watch is not designed to store a lot of data, being more designed to install applications. You can also present yourself with the problem of having it extremely saturated, especially in somewhat older generations. One of the most common is undoubtedly the failure to install software updates. In these cases, a thorough cleaning of the storage should be done.

This is not a problem, which generally does not appear in the new generations. Although it may not seem like it, the storage that is offered can be enough to carry out some common tasks. To be able to check the storage you have, you can go to Settings> General> Use on the Apple Watch. Here we explain how you can free up space in different ways.

Remove apps

The first thing you should consider is eliminating those applications that you do not use daily on the Apple Watch. Depending on your initial configuration, you may have active that all the apps that you install on the paired iPhone also end up on the clock. This can end up causing storage to become saturated so you should check which ones you use on a day-to-day basis. To be able to delete them, you can do it from the iPhone or on the Apple Watch itself. To do it with the iPhone you simply have to follow the following steps:

  • Enter the ‘Watch’ application.
  • Scroll down until you see the applications you have installed.
  • Select the one you want to delete.
  • Turn off the ‘Show on Apple Watch’ option.

In the event that you don’t want to use the iPhone, you can also do it from the watch itself. For this you simply have to do the following steps:

  • On the Apple Watch, click on the digital crown to view all the apps.
  • Keep the icon of the app you want to delete pressed for a few seconds.
  • Apps will start to ‘shake’.
  • An ‘X’ will appear above the application that you must press to make it disappear.

Obviously these applications are not eliminated forever. They can always be recovered in the watch’s own App Store or on the iPhone with the possibility of reinstalling them.

Get rid of the music

Multimedia files are the ones that can end up devouring the storage of any Apple Watch. By this we refer above all to music, podcasts or audiobooks that can be downloaded to the clock to play them offline without having the iPhone linked at all times. This is something that will be very typical is people who have a watch without an LTE connection and want to go out to do sports and prefer to connect a headset to the watch and play this content. As in the previous case, it can be done both from the Apple Watch or from the iPhone. To do it with the first team, follow these steps:

  • Access the ‘Music’ application.
  • Click on ‘Library’ where you will have all your songs.
  • Choose the song you want to delete and swipe left.
  • Here you can click on the option ‘Delete’

In the case of the iPhone you can follow the following steps:

  • Enter the ‘Watch’ application.
  • Look for the ‘Music’ section and access it.
  • Click on the ‘Edit’ button.
  • Press the delete button next to each downloaded song or album.

If you talk about podcasts, once they have been played they are automatically deleted. That is why it is important not to download them if you are not going to reproduce it in the short term. This is something that can also be applied for audiobooks that have a similar operation

Delete photos

One last option that remains is to delete the photos or albums that you have synchronized with the devices. To be able to unlink these albums that you have synchronized, you must do it from the iPhone itself, as it is much easier. To do so, you simply have to follow the following steps:

  • On iPhone enter the ‘Clock’ application.
  • Scroll to the ‘Photos’ section.
  • Choose in ‘Selected album’ those that you do not want to be synchronized with your watch.

It is also interesting to impose a limitation on the number of photos to be synchronized. It is important to set this value to a minimum if you do not have a lot of storage available to prevent media files from crashing, which although they occupy little as a whole can be a significant load.

In this way you can have the Apple Watch much cleaner, designed above all so that you can install the software updates that are arriving.
