How to Locate iPhone Model Number

Why is it important to know the iPhone model number you have? It is a very important fact if you are the one who sells it or if you are going to buy it second hand, but you will also need it to know in advance if an iOS update will be compatible with your device or not.

Still, identifying your iPhone model is quite simple: for recent models, just go to settings and check right there what iPhone model you have. In the case of previous models, you can check the model number by taking a look at the back of the phone, or you can also check the list that we give you below about the iPhone versions and their respective model numbers.

What iPhone do I have exactly?

If you want to find out what iPhone model you have, just go to Settings> General> About .

The About page gives you general information about your iPhone: It details the version of iOS you are running, the storage capacity, as well as the model number. In addition, if your iPhone runs iOS 12.2 or later, you can see the name of the device model indicated (or if you want to see it in a simple way, this data is available from the iPhone 5S).

However, if you have an iPhone 5 or earlier, you will not be able to upgrade to iOS 12.2. By extension, you won’t be able to see the name of your iPhone model in Settings. This does not mean that you cannot locate this information on the device: to do this you must repeat the above sequence and go to Settings> General> About .

Under About, tap the number to the right of the Model Number . Initially, this will be a number that begins with M or N; however, when you touch it, you will see a number that starts with A. Also, you can find the model number (which starts with A) on the back of your iPhone, if you don’t want to go crazy by accessing it through Settings.
