When buying a computer or improving the one we already have at home, there are several sections that we take into consideration. We talk about additional aspects to the usual ones of the processor, RAM or hard drives. With this we refer to other components as important as the graphic system that we will have, or the sound.
Although these could not be considered as essential, especially in more corporate environments, today they have gained much importance. The main reason for all this is that at the moment we use a PC , in addition to working, for leisure moments. Hence, more and more users are opting to acquire or use increasingly powerful components for both the audio and the graphics system.
This is something that becomes especially important if we intend to watch movies and series on the PC, play games , stream content online, etc. But we must not only take into consideration the hardware components as such, but we must also consider the software that we use for all this. In fact and due to its widespread use, program developers are increasingly taking care of everything related to multimedia content. This includes, how could it be otherwise, Microsoft itself and its Windows 10.

And you have to bear in mind that, as you already know, more and more videos are being played and more music is being listened to from the computer itself. To this we must add the use of these contents made by video editing applications, games, etc. This makes users worry more than just a few years ago to achieve a better quality of reproduction of the same. This refers to both the image and the sound itself. For this we generally use programs from the scope of Kodi or VLC , among many other players.
As we mentioned before, the hardware of the equipment has a lot to do here, but it does not only depend on that. Here comes into play the quality of the sound card that we have, the graphics, the speakers, the screen, the headphones, etc. But we must also choose the most appropriate software or that suits our needs, in addition to knowing how to configure it correctly. That is precisely what we want to talk about below, focusing on something as important as Windows 10 itself.
And we must bear in mind that Windows 10 itself , the most widely used desktop operating system, offers several options to improve sound quality. This is something that will directly affect most of the applications that we run here, as you can imagine, which are not few.
Basic sound settings in Windows
And we don’t just mean the basic setting of controlling the volume from the Windows toolbar. This is a simple and basic control that will help us to adjust the volume of the general or individual audio of the system and its applications. To do this, just click on the corresponding speaker-shaped icon to adjust the general volume of the system.
But this is something that we can also carry out individually for the applications we have running at that moment. For this we only have to click on that same icon, but in this case with the right mouse button. Next we select the option to Open volume mixer. Then all the applications that we have open at that moment will appear on the screen in order to manage the volume of each one of them individually.
Settings to improve sound in Windows
As you can imagine, depending on the sound card model that we have installed in the PC, we will be able to make some sound adjustments or others. Everything will depend on the complexity of it, as well as its initial quality. However, Windows 10 itself presents us with some parameters of its own that by default will allow us to greatly improve the sound of the applications we use here.
Well, one of the possible solutions that we can use in this regard, we achieve it by clicking the right mouse button on the speaker icon. We refer to the one located on the system taskbar, as we did previously. But in this case we are going to opt for selecting the Spatial Sound option.
At this point it should be noted that this is a function that is disabled by default, so from here we can choose between Dolby or DTS sound . Depending on the speakers or headphones that we have connected to the PC at that time, we can take advantage of either of these two improvements. In the same way, we can also use Windows Sonic mode for headphones.
Another of the solutions to improve the sound in Windows that we can use is the one that we will describe below. To do this we click on the speaker button again with the secondary button, and select the Sounds option. This will lead to a new window made up of several tabs that are located at the top of it.
Well, in the case that interests us now, we click on Playback, where we will see the available audio devices. We select the one we want to configure, for example the speakers, and click with the right mouse button on that entry to select Properties.
In the next window that appears on the screen, in this case we are going to click on the Advanced Options tab. This will give us the opportunity to select between the different audio qualities supported by your sound card.
Here we will see several of them that go from the most basic to the most advanced. In fact, something that will be very useful to us, next to this drop-down list we find a button that plays a sample so that we can appreciate the differences between the qualities.
