Concentrating is a task that can become very complicated if you have many distractions around you. The iPhone is one of those distractions that must be avoided at all costs. This can be achieved by silencing the notifications of all the applications that you are not going to use. For this you can use the Concentration mode, of which we will tell you all the details below.
What is concentration mode?
Concentration mode is a feature that is integrated into the ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode. Apple included it as of the iOS 15 version for iPhones that are compatible and aims to avoid distractions when doing a specific task. It goes beyond silencing notifications in general as it focuses on specific applications in order to differentiate how the iPhone is used while working and also when out of the office.
In the day to day applications are used that are more designed for the personal field but others for the work one. If you want to avoid having stress problems, it is important to know how to disconnect when you are not in a work environment and this is the functionality you should use. You always have to take into account the exceptions that can be generated when receiving notifications, such as favorite contacts that you are most interested in always having in view in the notifications you receive.
Before activating the concentration mode, keep in mind that it must be perfectly configured. It can be done always adjusting to your personal tastes and you have to invest some time to choose which applications you want to have and also the contacts that you are allowed.
Create a new mode
By default, starting with iOS 15 , a series of concentration modes are included that are not configured but created. It is important to start from scratch and for this you will simply have to create a new one. The process is really simple and it clearly differs from do not disturb mode being a mode that cannot be eliminated. To carry out the creation, simply follow the following steps:
- Enter Settings.
- Access the ‘Concentration’ section.
- Click on the ‘+’ icon that you will find in the upper right corner.
- Follow the steps shown on the screen.
The system itself offers you several modes of concentration that are the most typical: driving, exercise, play and reading. When you start to configure them, the possibility appears that they are activated automatically when that specific activity is going to be carried out. For example, the driving concentration mode is activated when you connect the iPhone to the car’s bluetooth or the game mode is activated when you start a video game on the iPhone. But you can also choose a mode that is personalized in which you will give it the name and the icon yourself.
Once you have passed this first configuration phase, it is time to choose the people who can send you notifications. Simply by clicking on ‘Add people’ you will see how your contact list opens and you can choose anyone. Through the name, phone number and email you will receive notifications that come from this contact. This includes any type of application such as Telegram, WhatsApp, Messages …
App notifications are a real source of distraction. That is why in the next configuration point you can choose from the list the applications from which you want to receive notifications when the concentration mode is activated. When you click on ‘Add app’ a list appears where all the installed applications will be classified in alphabetical order. You simply have to choose those that you are interested in activating and saving the configuration.
Finally, the configuration process asks you if you want to activate urgent notifications. The operating system will determine those notifications that it believes require your immediate attention and will show them even if the concentration mode is activated. Here, for example, the notification of the presence of movement in a camera that you have connected to HomeKit or the arrival of an order enters. Once all this is done, the mode will be ready to be used.
Edit the modes you have already configured
All the modes that you have created on the iPhone as well as those that are predefined can be re-configured at any time. It even adds different extra features that don’t appear in the traditional setup process. To carry out the edition you simply have to follow the following steps:
- Enter Settings.
- Access the ‘Concentration’ section.
- Click on the mode you want to edit.
In the options screen that appear if you scroll to the end you will see characteristics that were not in the configuration process. Those at the beginning will be familiar to you and by clicking on them you can edit them to your liking, such as contacts or applications. But further down are the customization options. For example, in the ‘Home screen’ section , the notification balloons can be deactivated as well as showing only specific pages of applications. In the case of ‘locked screen’ you can choose to show silenced notifications or dim the screen in general. Regarding the muted notifications, you will not see them unless you scroll up on the locked screen.
To this are also added the options to activate automatically that are found at the end of all configuration options. The operating system allows it to be activated automatically by creating an automation. Within the automations you can choose the possibility of activating the concentration mode depending on the location where you are or the time. They also give the options to activate it when a specific application is opened and deactivate it when exiting it.
How to activate it on iPhone
Once this configuration has been made, it can be activated manually. This applies in the event that you do not choose an activation time slot yourself, although it is always possible to exit this mode. The most common system to do this is through the control center where there is a very fast shortcut system to be able to activate it comfortably. In this case, you simply have to display the control center and click on ‘Concentration’. In the drop-down menu that appears, you must choose the mode you want to have active in that mode.
The same applies to be able to deactivate them in the event that you do not want the time you have established to run. Although, there is also the option to activate it through Siri with the simple command ‘Hey Siri activate the work concentration mode’ to start it without touching anything at all. This does not remove the fact that you can access the applications even if they are silenced as we have previously commented since it is not a restrictive system in this sense, but rather removes auditory and visual distractions.
