How the Intel i7-12800HX processor for laptops performs

Intel surprised us a few days ago with its top-of-the-range laptop processors with a TDP of up to 55 W. We are referring to the Intel Core 12 HX range. Which are desktop chips adapted to work in workstations and portable high-end gaming systems. Well, the first performance tests of the Core i7-12800HX processor for laptops have come out.

Within the world of laptops there are many variants, from the ultralight fully portable to powerful systems for gaming. Intel’s latest invention to continue to lead the market? Launch the same processors as the desktop, but soldered to the laptop board via BGA instead of using a traditional socket. This is because they are benchmarks running on a single core and we have to assume that the base clock speed is identical. In contrast, when it comes to gaming performance and running several of them at 1080P with an RTX 3070 Ti for laptops , we see a slight advantage due to the 2 additional cores of the i7-12800HX. As you can see there are differences of 4 or 5 frames per second in the best of cases.

What conclusions can we draw from these figures? We’d like to see the numbers with games running at 1440p, mostly due to the fact that most laptops with this processor will use panels at this resolution. And it is with a greater number of pixels on the screen, it will be where the graphics card is most drowned out. So the lower time per frame is achieved by having a faster processor. Let’s not forget that games are the application capable of using all possible cores well. This is because entire threads and process cores are assigned to various common tasks.
