If an HONOR phone says no SIM card is detected, start with the card, tray and SIM settings before changing internet settings. A missing SIM, an inactive account and “No service” are different problems, even when they all stop calls or mobile data.

Check the exact message
| Symptom | What it points to |
|---|---|
| No SIM or SIM not detected | The phone is not reading or enabling the card/profile. |
| SIM is listed but no service | Coverage, activation, registration or account restrictions may be involved. |
| Calls work but mobile data does not | Check data allowance, the selected data SIM and the operator’s APN. |
| SIM 1 fails but SIM 2 works | Compare card, slot and configuration carefully; it does not prove a software fault. |
Restart and check the tray
- Restart the phone once and read the message again.
- For a physical SIM, switch the phone off before removing the tray, following the model’s manual.
- Check the SIM size, orientation and whether it sits flat in the correct slot.
- Wipe the card’s contacts gently with a clean, dry, soft cloth if needed.
- Reinsert the tray without forcing it, then restart.
Do not push cloth, metal tools or liquid into the SIM slot. A bent tray or damaged card needs attention rather than more pressure. HONOR’s SIM detection guidance is the official starting point.
Test the SIM and phone separately
If available, try the SIM in another compatible, unlocked phone. Then try a known working compatible SIM in the HONOR. These checks narrow the problem down, but take carrier locks, activation and supported networks into account before blaming a component.
If the card fails in more than one suitable phone, contact the operator about activation or replacement. After a number transfer, confirm that the new SIM is active and that the old one has stopped working as expected.
After setup, an update or imported settings
Open Settings and search for SIM management or Mobile network. Check that the intended SIM is enabled and selected for calls or data. Exact menus depend on MagicOS and the model.
This is also the starting point for an HONOR X9d that stops recognising SIM 1 after setup. It does not mean that every X9d has the same fault or that an update will always fix it. Install official system updates, and follow the operator’s instructions for an eSIM; do not delete an eSIM unless you know how to reactivate it.
What should you avoid resetting first?
Changing APN settings will not make a physically unreadable card appear. Clearing unrelated Phone services data or factory-resetting the phone is not a sensible first step. A network reset may remove saved network settings, so read the confirmation and use it only when the troubleshooting calls for it.
Our common SIM problems guide separates activation and signal issues. While waiting for help, an old phone can still have useful Wi-Fi-only jobs, but ordinary cellular calls and data need a working service.
