Honor 50: Characteristics, Technical Sheet with Photos and Price

This time the Honor 50 is not a review, somewhat cheaper, of the Huawei P50, because at the time of launching this phone on the market, Huawei’s top of the range does not even have an official presentation date.

We are facing a mobile that claims to be the first launched after the spin-off of the Huawei firm, now being the responsibility of a conglomerate of Chinese companies and that, thanks to this, can return to work with all Google services, including the Play Store and all the apps of the Internet giant.

Along the following lines we are going to delve into each component of the smartphone, highlighting its 6.57-inch OLED panel and high refresh rate, its new processor signed by Qualcomm or its overwhelming fast charge of nothing more and nothing less. than 100W. Too bad the battery capacity does not accompany.

Display – Performance – Camera – Battery – Price

This is the new Honor 50 with GMS

The phone launches a camera module where two large circles predominate while the perforated display format is adopted on the front to accommodate a 32 MP selfie lens. We review its components point by point.

Screen

The smartphone mounts a curved panel at its ends that adopts a waterfall format, loved and hated in equal measure. It reaches a size of 6.57 inches with a FHD + resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and a screen density of 400 dpi. Its display format is 19.5: 9 and houses the selfie camera in the center of the upper part, in a small hole made in the glass.

It has one of the highest refresh rates on the market, 120 Hz, perfect for enjoying games with maximum smoothness. Its tactile sampling frequency is 300 Hz and we can work with a high contrast ratio of 5,000,000: 1.

Performance

The processor that the Honor mobile has is one that we have not seen until today, a Snapdragon 778G CPU compatible with 5G SA and NSA networks, covering the entire spectrum of the current market. It has been manufactured in 6 nm and works up to 2.4 GHz. To this must be added an Adreno 642L GPU that should not, on paper, offer great problems with the main games on the market, however demanding they may be.

Regarding the memory configuration, we have versions of 8 and 12 GB of RAM, while the storage remains at 128 or 256 GB.

Camera

The device abandons the Matrix Camera concept that featured in its predecessors and is committed to equipping its photographic system with a 108 MP main lens, like many other medium-high range on the market. This main sensor, housed in the upper circular package, has an f / 1.9 aperture lens and is complemented by three other rear cameras that are located in the lower circular package. This is where we stumble upon an 8 megapixel wide angle with aperture f / 2.2, a macro sensor of 2 MP and f / 2.4 and a last depth sensor with the same resolution and aperture.

Honor 50

How could it be otherwise, the AI is still present in the phone, both in these lenses and in the 32 MP sensor that is located on the front. Thanks to this we can improve the quality of our photos with scene recognition and automatic capture improvement, which are added to the classic shooting modes.

Regarding the video, despite the high resolution of the selfie camera, we can only record clips in 1080p at 30 fps with it. We have more options with the rear lenses, which offer 4K recording, also at the same fps speed.

Battery

We find a positive and a negative point in the smartphone autonomy section. Starting with the bad, we have a 4,300 mAh cell that may seem insufficient for many, although it should reach the day of use without great effort.

In return we have that 100W fast charge that we talked about at the beginning of this technical sheet and that promises to charge the smartphone at blazing speeds. In less than an hour we could fully power the smartphone.

Connectivity

Thanks to the choice of the Qualcomm chipset we have, not only compatibility with 5G SA and NSA networks, but also with Wi-Fi 6, with higher speed and bandwidth than the rest of the spectrum where we also run into the possibility of working on 802.11ac (5GHz), 802.11b (2.4GHz), 802.11g (2.4GHz), and 802.11n (2.4GHz) networks.

Regarding Bluetooth, its version is 5.2 with BLE compatibility, we can use NFC to make payments with the phone, among other things, and geoposition ourselves with your GPS with A-GPS, Glonass, Beidou.

On a physical level, the protagonism is left with a USB Type C port for charging and data transfer, since we do not have a headphone port. The fingerprint sensor is located under the AMOLED panel of the phone. The phone supports two nanoSIM cards, allowing them to be used at the same time.

Back to Google services

The technical sheet of this Honor 50 makes it clear that we are before a spectacular smartphone, not so much for its performance, since it has a new processor, as for its screen and, above all, its camera, wrapped in a most peculiar design.

But if the Chinese firm’s smartphone stands out for something, it is because it is the first to be born outside the Huawei umbrella, which implies that a Kirin chipset is not used inside and, most importantly, the global models of the phone will return to Have a licensed version of Android and GMS, that is, full compatibility with all Google services.

Of course, its software will sound like we have seen it on previous Honor phones, as it is still the MagicUI customization layer.

Honor 50

At the moment neither this nor any other of the members of the Honor 50 series are sold in our country, but that does not mean that we cannot talk about its price and its possible sales figure in our market.

In China it can be purchased in Frost Crystal, Amber Red, Emerald Green and Midnight Black, with different RAM and storage configurations:

  • Honor 50 of 8 + 256 GB : 2,999 yuan, about 390 euros to change
  • Honor 50 of 12 + 256 GB : 3,399 yuan, around 440 euros to change

At these prices, in Spain, we would have to add the different rates and taxes that are applied in our trade, so it is to be imagined that they started from 499 euros.
