Not many years ago, Instagram was just another social network in which hundreds of thousands of users uploaded photos of their day to day. It was used as a complement to Twitter or even as a personal blog, but with images. However, little by little, the new generations stopped approaching Facebook and began to use Instagram for new purposes. To this day, Instagram bears very little resemblance to the network that it was 10 years ago or even less. The community has evolved, and it has become a multidisciplinary network where there are entrepreneurs , companies and even people who live off their personal brand . Sometimes many users are forced to transform their personal profile into a public or professional profile . This means that it will be necessary to hide or eliminate part of our past that we do not want to remain public. In this post we will explain how you can hide some posts from your past from your Instagram profile without necessarily having to delete said content.
Transforming an Instagram account is very common
You are not and will not be the first to start an Instagram account when I was in school, and now, after many years, knowledge and experiences, you have been forced to turn your Instagram account into a professional profile . Setting up a business or personal brand is not something that is done overnight. In most cases, you go into a business when you already have some experience, or at least, you already have some confidence that it will do well. That is why it is not unreasonable that your personal account ends up transformed into something serious, qualified and professional . Or even become one of the main assets of your company.
If this is your case, you will have to hide a lot of publications to transform your profile. And this is what we are going to explain in detail below
How to hide your posts without deleting them
If you want to clean up your Instagram account , but do not want to lose the memories of your profile, be it photos, tags, comments and others, Instagram has allowed you to hide these photos and videos for quite some time without being forced to delete posts . The steps you have to do are the following:
- Open the Instagram application on your mobile. It doesn’t matter if you use an iPhone or an Android device.
- Go to your profile picture icon, which is located in the lower right corner of the application interface.
- There you will see the data of your profile and your most recent publications, accompanied by the line of highlighted stories that it shows to your audience.
- Browse until you find the post you want to hide from your followers. Enter within said publication.
- Now, three vertical dots will appear in the upper right corner. If we click, we will get a contextual menu with several options that we can apply to the image, reel or video.
- Within this menu click on “archive” . The post will automatically disappear from your public feed.
- You can go through the same process with your featured stories . If you are no longer interested in showing the public a specific story, enter one of those publications, go to the contextual menu using the corner menu and again, click on archive.
How to view your archived content on Instagram
Carrying out the previous process, we have managed to hide some of our personal publications (and even old photos that already give us a bit of shame). To see the new private feed of our Instagram account, we will have to go to the archive , which is where all the publications that we have hidden from our followers are stored. If you want to see all the content you have
hidden, I will have to do the following steps :
- Go back to your Instagram profile by clicking on your avatar thumbnail in the lower right corner of the app.
- Locate the hamburger menu, which is in the upper right corner of the interface. A new drop-down will open and you will have to click on the second option , which is called “File”.
- At the top of the interface, you can choose between viewing the archive of stories, the archive of publications and the archive of Live Videos. You will have to select the option you prefer. Once checked, you will see three different tabs.
- In the first of all we can see the publications that we have archived . If they are few, it will be easy to find them, so you will not need to use the other two.
- However, if your account is very large, it will be interesting to use the two remaining tabs. In the central tab you will be able to find the publication using the original date on which you sent the content to Instagram . This will be very useful if, for example, you manage a successful brand on that social network. The last tab has a thumbnail of a map, and it will allow you to find your photos, stories and videos based on the location where you made those posts . Most users will not find this function particularly useful, but if you travel a lot around the world, this is probably the tab that you use the most of the three, and not another.
How to retrieve archived posts
Finally, you can retrieve any post that you regret archiving, or want to make visible again for whatever reason. The steps you have to do are as follows:
- Go back to the Instagram file , following the steps we have written in the previous section.
- Go to the posts, direct or stories tab depending on the content you want to retrieve in your feed .
- Enter the publication, click on the hamburger menu and check the option “show in profile.”
- Then, your publication will be public again , and it will recover its original position within your profile. You just have to be careful if you have one of those super neat feeds that make big images through small posts, as it will not be so easy to do this without throwing out all the previous work.
