Google Chrome is the most widely used web browser in the world. And, although a rival has recently come up that, of course, is going to make things complicated (we are talking about Edge), most users continue to bet on the Google browser. A few hours ago, Google launched a new version of its browser for all users: Chrome 86 . And this version has arrived full of changes and news of all kinds, being one of the most interesting that we have seen in recent months.
The new Google Chrome 86 arrives as a serious and very important update in order to continue improving the user experience when using this browser. The new version focuses, on the one hand, on improving the security of users by correcting bugs and facilitating the change of vulnerable passwords, and on the other hand, on improving PC performance with a series of changes that we will see below.

The first thing we are going to talk about is going to be about improving browser performance. We always complain about the large amount of memory and CPU that the browser consumes when we have several tabs open at the same time. Google wanted to remedy this with this new version, and for this reason, it has added a new CPU Throttling function that will limit the use of the CPU to all open and inactive tabs for more than 5 minutes. These tabs can also be reactivated once a minute so that, if they run something in the background, the process does not break. But, of course, we are facing a very important feature thanks to which we can reduce the use of the browser’s CPU and, with it, the battery use.
In addition to this performance improvement, Google has included other very important features in its browser related to security. The first one is a button, next to each compromised password , which will allow us to change them directly from there. This function makes use of a standard URL created for this purpose, so if a website has it implemented we can change the password. Otherwise, the browser will take us to the page in question and we can log in and change it by hand.
Another security measure introduced in the new Chrome 86 is the ability to display a warning of danger when a user tries to write a form on an unprotected HTTP website . If we try to submit the form, Chrome will show a page like the error one that will notify us of the problem. We can choose if we really want to send the form, or go back.
Other relevant changes to the new Google Chrome 86 are:
- Improvements when it comes to moving with the keyboard or with assistance programs.
- New uniform icons in Chrome OS.
- New menu on Android.
- VP9 for macOS.
- New APIs and tags for developers.
In addition, Google has corrected a total of 35 security flaws in this new version of the browser. One of the vulnerabilities has been considered critical, and it was related to Chrome’s payment systems. Also, 7 vulnerabilities of “high” importance and all the others between medium and low have been fixed.

The new Chrome 86 is now available, in the stable branch, for all users. Those who already have the browser installed will automatically receive this new version. We can check the version, and force the download of the new one from the Help> Information menu of Google Chrome.
