Goodbye Lag! Movistar Will Have Gaming Mode in Its Smart WiFi Router

Movistar Will Have Gaming Mode in Its Smart WiFi Router

The Movistar Smart WiFi or HGU router offers good performance to make the most of the fiber connections of the blue operator. Except in the mode of up to 1 Gbps which is somewhat limited by this equipment, the wireless and wired performance of this device is quite good. However, there is always room to improve or at least to squeeze something more out of the router in a specific activity. For this reason, Movistar will soon introduce a gaming mode to offer the best gaming experience with greater stability and speed.

“Now, we go one step further and introduce the new Gaming functionality to offer users the best online gaming experience at maximum speed without the need for technical knowledge.” That is the message that Movistar will transmit in a video that will be played in a loop at the stand it has prepared for its participation in the Mobile World Congress in 2021 . The blue operator will be one of the few that will participate in person at the fair.

What will the Movistar gaming mode bring?

Telefónica will show its digital home proposal at MWC. This will be supported by several pillars such as connectivity and a technological platform integrated by multiple devices. Among the devices we find the Smart WiFi Router, the UHD decoder with 4K quality, the Movistar + Voice Control and Movistar Home. In addition, they place Movistar + at the center of the proposal with the best content or the integration of DAZN, Netflix or Disney +.

They do not forget the Living apps that grant special functions to Movistar television. In recent months, the Movistar Campus and Purchasing applications have been incorporated, adding to a good handful of existing ones. Antonio Guzmán, Director of Digital Home at Telefónica, explains that “at Telefónica we have been betting on the digital home for several years, relying on excellent connectivity, the best devices and technology that we bring to our clients’ homes.

However, one of the most surprising announcements it will make, and the one they tiptoe through in the press release, is that we can manage connectivity at home for an optimal gaming experience. Currently, the Smart WiFi mobile app allows you to adjust and configure different aspects of the connection, see which devices are connected, block their connection, create parental control and other things.

Starting with a future update, it will also be able to apply a series of special optimizations with which the user will be able to “enjoy a better online gaming experience with greater speed and stability”. Movistar explains that “the user will be able to play without cables and obtain an experience the same as if they were connected via ethernet (network cable)”. In addition, this functionality will also improve the performance of online services such as cloud gaming and multiplayer.
