How to fix Xiaomi and MIUI themes and icons issue

When it appears, with an update to the Xiaomi launcher, an unexpected error arrives that has already begun to give people something to talk about. Many users throw their hands in their heads because after turning their phone off and on, the themes are deleted and the icons change places without having done anything different from what we have been doing the rest of the days in which we use the mobile.

MIUI themes vanish

It was from MIUI 12 when the well-known Xiaomi launcher began to give this series of errors that, for more than one user, has completely annoyed. More than anything, because it has ended up causing whatever our theme is to be completely removed from our device. Something that has been trying to put an end to for several updates, even after we saw the arrival of MIUI 12.5.

At first, users thought that it was an error with the subject in question that was on the Chinese mobile. However, some time later, the error has been appearing in more models and above all, also showing changes in the icons that were on the desktop of the terminal screen.

This Xiaomi error that can be very annoying only appears when you restart the mobile, that’s why some have noticed this problem, while others have never suffered it. The mobile cache generated by the launcher is capable of storing the changes, but when the mobile is turned off they are deleted.

This has left us in a difficult situation since the arrival of MIUI 12 and, for now, the problem in previous versions of the system is unknown. This error should not last long, being solved with a launcher update. The problem has already been reported to Xiaomi, although if you do not know how to solve it, we will explain how to do it on your own.

Fix the bug

As we have done on other occasions, avoiding Xiaomi’s problem will only consist of going to that version in which everything worked well and with which Xiaomi had not yet made the mistake. However, we must also prevent the mobile from updating automatically, or rather the MIUI system apps from updating themselves.

Turn off app updates

1. We enter the System Settings.
2. We touch on System Application Updater.
3. Click on the options wheel.
4. In automatic updates we choose the option ‘Cannot update’.

Install the launcher without problems

Once the previous step is done, it is time to return the launcher to the previous version that worked correctly, where the problem with Xiaomi themes and icons did not exist. We must do this from the mobile to make it easier and simpler. Although, we must allow the terminal to install unknown apps. To achieve this, we will have to do the following:

1. Go into Settings.
2. Select the Applications section.
3. Once inside, click on Manage applications.
4. Look for the app that we grant permissions to be able to install apps from unknown sources .
5. Finally, we confirm the change in the corresponding option.

After the previous steps, you just have to carry out the following process to install APK files :

1. We access the following link with the APKs of the Xiaomi launcher .
2. We scrolled down to the first release from February and selected it.
3. We download it on the mobile.
4. Then we enter the file explorer, choose it and install it.

With this process, our mobile will continue to work without problems, the themes will not be deleted and the apps will not change position either. After a few weeks we will be able to activate the updates again with the first steps that we teach you and the error will have been resolved.

And remember that before doing anything you should always make a backup on your Xiaomi . If you don’t know how to do it yourself, just follow these steps:

1. Access the settings of your Chinese smartphone.
2. Click on the ‘Additional settings’ option.
3. At the bottom of the phone panel, select the ‘Back up and restore’ section.

Once inside this section of the MIUI settings , we can select where we want to make the backup of the smartphone. In addition, we can choose between generating a file in the internal memory of our Chinese mobile that we can store, either in the terminal itself or in an external device such as a computer. Although, we can also choose the option in which it is created in the cloud with the Xiaomi Cloud service.

Post a stock theme

Another of the tricks that the different users who have had to live in their own skin this annoying error has been finding is the simplest of all. Although, not everyone who has tried this method has been able to solve it. Basically, what they have done has been to eliminate themselves the theme that they had previously placed for their terminals and install the one that comes as standard. To do this, we will use the official MIUI application, for this we will have to follow this process:

1. We enter Themes or Themes.
2. We access the last tab that corresponds to our profile.
3. Next, click on the option to customize themes.
4. We individually choose each of the following options: lock style, status bar, icons, messages, keyboard on phone, favorites, power on image and power on sound.

Each of these options can be modified with a different style, although in our case what will interest us will not be the customization itself, but the fact of going on to use the Classic option that comes on Xiaomi phones. When accessing each section, the ones that we have installed to use in that specific section of the theme will appear . Once we have chosen, we just have to touch at the bottom on making a backup and the change will be made.

Change the home screen

Another method that has worked for a significant number of users affected by this same bug is changing the configuration of their home screen. To do this, we must follow the following steps:

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Go to the Home Screen section.
3. Select again on Home Screen and choose the Classic option.
