Within the wide variety of software that we usually have installed on our Windows PC, a very important element is internet browsers. And it is that for many these are the first applications that are put into operation as soon as the computer starts up. But for various reasons on some occasions we can find that its operation or start-up is not as expected. This is precisely the case that we want to talk about next. This Windows update blocks Chrome, Firefox or Edge
Specifically, we are referring to the fact that some of these browsers crash with the error code 0xc0000022 after installing the April 2022 Windows updates. These correspond to the patches sent by Microsoft on the popular Update Tuesday of this month.
Initially the company didn’t report any issues with these, and the installation seems to go well on most devices. But after a few days it has been seen that some users report that they cannot start the most popular browsers after installing these Windows updates.
This means that programs like Firefox , Chrome or Edge, among others, do not start. In fact, a message appears indicating that the application failed to start accompanied by the error 0xc0000022. This is something that happens the instant we try to get some of today’s internet browsers up and running. Something that we must take into consideration is that it seems that the problem does not affect all programs of this type. Hence, a recommendation is to try others such as Brave or Vivaldi to see if they work.
How to fix the bug with browsers
But of course, for most, changing the default browser is not the best solution. That is why, to fix the bug with our favorite program of this type, it is preferable to uninstall the most recent Windows update, such as KB5012599.
Therefore, by eliminating the source of the failure, as you can imagine, the problem is solved. This is something that we can achieve by simply opening the Settings application of the operating system, for example, with the Win + I key combination.
Next, we go to the Updates and security section / View update history / Uninstall updates . From here we will have the possibility to eliminate the last mentioned patches. Delving a little deeper into this topic, it is interesting to know that it has appeared in the final versions of Windows over the last few hours. But similar reports published months ago have also been seen in Insider Previews.
Also, it seems that this is a bug that mainly affects the most common and popular browsers that we can use today. It is also important to know that this is something that can happen in both Windows 10 and Windows 11 .
