The AMD RX 6000 are revolutionizing the PC market, to the point that it is almost impossible to get one today due to the very high demand they have had. But many of those who have gotten a drive are finding a problem in Intel systems that has been quite curious, since it is possible that the GPU does not show anything on the screen, or if it does, it does not finish passing the POST giving a curious error in the NVRAM ( error 92 ), how to solve it?

There is nothing more frustrating than acquiring a product that is inaccessible to the rest and that when we go to start it with problems. This is happening to many users, who are complaining about a rare error today: NVRAM .

Let’s describe the situation: we arrive with our brand new AMD RX 6800, we remove our old graphics card, we click this new one based on RDNA 2.0, we connect its power supply, the monitor and we turn on the PC with maximum hype, but…. Either it doesn’t give an image or it stays on the loading screen.

The frustration appears, there is no way to pass the BIOS POST and for those who have QCODE on their motherboard, hopefully, they will have indications of the error they are suffering, but those who do not have it can panic if there is no image .

The error is described as a problem with NVRAM and is usually detected as error 92 in said QCODE, although this can vary between manufacturers. What to do? First of all, do not panic, since it is not a problem with the graphics card, the error is generated by the PC due to a setting that we have configured and that for some reason that we still do not understand does not get along with this new RX 6000 series with RDNA 2.0.

Curiously, and within the same manufacturer, there is a curiosity that although it is configured equally on different platforms, the error appears only on Intel platforms, while on AMD this does not happen in any case (or at least it has not been reported nor have we been able to reproduce it)

Everything has to do with the CSM or compatibility module in said BIOS / UEFI, but to solve it we will have to re-click the old GPU, since from the new one we will not be able to access since it blocks the POST. Once this is done, we will enter the BIOS / UEFI and we will go to the system boot menu, where we will have to look for the CSM option as shown in the image below.

Once inside this section we will have to select the Legacy option, because apparently that is where the compatibility of the GPU with the BIOS lies, possibly due to something to do with the Infinity Cache of these new RDNA 2.0, since with the RDNA 1.0 no there were problems.

We will only have to save the changes, click the RX 6800 or RX 6800 XT again and check that it now enters the operating system directly. We have to say that this has not been corrected with the BIOS versions for the later GPUs, so it is something that AMD or motherboard manufacturers should work on to correct it as soon as possible, because keeping CSM enabled today does not makes too much sense for the vast majority of PCs.
