Engineers Manage to Obtain Potable Water from the Air

Water is one of the most abundant substances in the entire world. It is a good that a huge number of people can access very easily, just by turning on a tap. Still, it is not an easy task to take the water and make it drinkable so that millions of households around the world can drink it. You can also access it by buying it bottled. However, something that seemed unthinkable is that drinking water could be obtained directly from the air. This has been achieved by a group of Spanish engineers. They have managed to create a machine capable of collecting the moisture found in the air and converting it into drinking water.

A machine of enormous utility

This mechanism would be of vital importance for areas where the possibility of obtaining drinking water is less accessible. It would also be useful in areas where there is a lot of drought , especially during the summer months.

The main engineer is 82 years old and states that the purpose of this machine is to give people a cable, in addition to delivering water to places where there is no drinking water, such as underdeveloped countries or refugee camps.

In fact, he assures that his idea is not only to create a system that is effective, but also helps people who every day have to walk miles of distance carrying drinking water that they collect from wells.

Is that how it works

This machine works in the following way : by using electricity, the system cools the air which in turn makes it stop being in a gaseous state. Then, it is used to carry out the condensation process. The installation of this machine is quite easy and it has protections that make the mechanisms not affected by the sun’s rays.

Another possibility that was considered was that it was installed in desert areas, but it was discovered that the sand was very prone to damaging the systems.

The machine can operate even in very high temperatures and can handle a humidity level of just over 11%. In fact, they claim that they can produce a huge amount of drinking water on a daily basis (between 55 and 70 liters).

However, there are larger machines that by this same method can produce thousands of liters of drinking water in a single day.

Therefore, this great feat of engineering would be very important to be installed in those regions where there are more difficulties to obtain water that can be drunk and that is not harmful to health.
