No matter how quickly one might want to give an iOS update for the iPhone , the truth is that it was useless if there was no connection to a WiFi network. Until now Apple did not allow the download of software through mobile data, but it seems that this changes in the new iPhone 12 with 5G. This has been known thanks to the MacRumors medium, since they have had access to an internal Verizon document that confirms this feature. However, it could be left alone in the United States .
New limitations of the 5G of the iPhone?
The iPhone 12 launch event was promoted using the slogan “Hi Speed”, which referred to “Hello Speed” and “High Speed” in English. To a large extent, this phrase was motivated by the arrival of 5G to Apple devices, something they talked about at length in the keynote. However, this 5G will arrive very in quotes to devices that are sold outside the United States.
In its native country, Apple has reached agreements with companies such as Verizon and others, which will help it offer the best 5G coverage in those places where the infrastructure allows it. In fact, the devices are equipped there with a special antenna located on one of its sides, which is absent in the iPhone 12 that are sold outside this country. Therefore, in territories like Spain we can have something better than 4G, but without becoming a real 5G. It is what is popularly known as advanced 4G, although it is not officially called that.

In the note published by MacRumors it is said that there will be an option within the mobile data settings of the iPhone 12 that will enable iOS updates through mobile data . This is something that has been asking for years and although it is true that it is not a great novelty, it is absurd not to be able to do it considering that we increasingly have rates with more GB and higher speeds. Even if it’s not 5G, many 4G speeds might be more than enough for downloading a system update.
However, as we warned already at the beginning, it is unknown if this feature will eventually reach all the countries where Apple’s real 5G will not arrive. If not, we will continue as before. If it does arrive, it is clear that it will only do so on the iPhone 12. We remember that of the four models presented, only the 6.1-inch models (12 and 12 Pro) will go on sale next Friday. To have a 12 mini or 12 Pro Max we will have to wait until November 13.
