The Epic Games Store has become in a very short time the second most important digital game store on the market, behind Steam. And this has been possible mainly for two reasons: Fortnite, one of its star games, and because every week this store gives away several games to its users, games that, some weeks, have reached a total value of more than 100 euros . And although its operation is very simple, it never hurts to know all the options that the client offers us when downloading and installing the games.
The Epic Games Store is much easier to use than Steam. Its configuration options are much more basic, and, in addition, it does not depend on “game libraries ” when installing each of the titles, but we can choose where we want to install each one more easily.
If we are one of those who like to have things organized, or we have several hard drives and we always put the games on one (the fastest), then we will explain how we can do it from the Epic Games Store.
Limit the download speed of games
Epic has good servers. Therefore, when we are going to download a game we will do it at maximum speed almost always. However, it is not advisable to use 100% of the bandwidth to download a game or any other content, because we will not have speed available for other things (such as browsing) or for other users to connect to the Internet.
Therefore, the first thing we should do is choose the maximum bandwidth that we want to use to download games from the Epic Store . To do this, what we must do is open the “Settings” window by clicking on the gear-shaped button in the left column of the program.
In the new menu that we will see we will find an option called ” Limit downloads “. By default, it will be disabled, so to use it we will have to check the box. By doing so, we can see a box where we can enter the maximum speed, in KB / s, that we want to use. The value zero equals unlimited.
Once the speed limit is set, we close the settings window and that’s it. Now we only have to put the game down.
Choose where to install a game from the Epic Games Store
We can see all the games that we have in the Epic Games Store in the library section of our account. Both the games that we have bought and those that we have downloaded for free will appear here.
We click on the game we want to install, and then a window like the one below will appear. In it we can choose the folder where we want the game to be installed, and if we want to create a shortcut and apply the updates automatically. By default, the game will be installed in a subfolder within the Epic Games Store directory, although we can change it by clicking on the “Browse” button .
Ready. By clicking on “Install” the game will start to download automatically, respecting the speed limit that we have configured. And when it’s done, the game is ready to start playing.
Game options and uninstall
Installed games will appear at the top of the list of “purchased” games on the Epic Store . We can easily differentiate them because their face will be colored instead of gray. Under each game we can find an icon with three points, which allows us to access the following options.
On the one hand, we will be able to verify the installation of the game. This will help us to ensure that if we have problems that all game data is correct and none has been corrupted. We will also find a button that will allow us to create a shortcut on the desktop quickly to launch the game, and a switch that will allow us to activate or deactivate the automatic updates of each game.
Finally, we will find another button called “Uninstall”, and, next to it, the space that the game occupies on the hard disk. This button will allow us to delete the game from the hard drive, freeing up the space it was occupying.
The process may take a few seconds, and when it is finished, there will no longer be a trace of it on our PC. The game will have been moved back to the library and will appear among the games we do not have installed. If we want to use it later, we simply have to download it again from the store.
