To update Facebook on a Windows PC, first check how you open it. A Microsoft Store installation is updated through the Store. A Facebook website window uses your browser. If you visit facebook.com in a normal tab, there is no separate Facebook installer to update.

A different icon or a separate window does not necessarily mean a completely different Facebook service. Website features can also roll out at different times to different accounts, so reinstalling an app does not guarantee a missing feature will appear.
Download Facebook for Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Open the Facebook listing in Microsoft Store, or search for Facebook inside the Store app.
- Review the publisher, device requirements and availability shown on that listing. A similarly named third-party app is a separate product.
- If the listing offers Get or Install for your PC, follow the Store’s prompts.
- Open the installed app and sign in on Facebook’s own login screen.
If the app is not available for your device or region, use facebook.com in a supported browser. You do not need an unofficial Facebook EXE or an Android APK to use the website on a laptop.
How to update the Facebook desktop app
Open Microsoft Store and find its app-update controls, usually under Library or Downloads. Select Check for Updates or Get updates, depending on your Store version. Install a Facebook update if one is offered, then reopen the app.
Microsoft’s Store update guide explains the current update controls. If Facebook is already current, there may be nothing to download. An old-looking feed or a missing account feature is not, by itself, proof that the installed package is out of date.
Install the Facebook website as an Edge app
This is another way to get a separate Facebook window and a convenient shortcut:
- Open Facebook in Microsoft Edge and check the website address.
- Open Edge’s three-dot menu. Look under More tools > Apps for Install this site as an app; some versions show an install icon in the address bar.
- Confirm the installation and choose where you want the shortcut.
Microsoft documents this in its Edge web-app guide. You can manage installed sites at edge://apps. Keep Edge updated, even when you usually open Facebook through its shortcut.
Facebook still looks old or will not load
- Reload the page or close and reopen the app. Try the Facebook website to see whether the problem also happens there.
- Check the browser version. In Edge, open Settings > About Microsoft Edge. In Chrome, use Settings > About Google Chrome.
- Try another browser profile or a private window. This can help narrow down an extension or saved-site-data problem.
- Clear Facebook’s site data only if needed. This can sign you out; make sure you can sign in again. It is not a routine way to unlock new features.

What about Windows 7?
An old Facebook download does not make Windows 7 or an outdated browser supported again. Check the current app and browser requirements and use a supported system. Microsoft’s Edge operating-system support list is a useful check before following instructions written for an older PC.
