DJI Mini 2, Launch: News, Features and Price

DJI Mini 2

DJI finally and officially presented its new drone, the DJI Mini 2 is the successor to that Mavic Mini that we got to know and test months ago. A drone that we had also already learned about after a human error that caused a user to buy it prematurely. Even so, if you want to know what this new proposal offers in detail, keep reading.

DJI Mini 2 and its 249 grams of weight

The new DJI Mini 2 is the successor to the DJI Mavic Mini, hence it shares certain elements in common such as those small dimensions and a weight that does not exceed 250 grams. Although before calmly looking at the design and other features, the first thing to comment is that the Mavic surname is lost and becomes only DJI Mini 2.

A Mini that becomes relevant, because with a body that weighs less than 249 grams it is really small. Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, allowing you to always carry it with you in any bag or backpack with hardly any clutter. That makes it a perfect travel companion.

The exact dimensions of the new DJI Mini 2 are:

  • Folded: 138 × 81 × 58 mm (length × width × height)
  • Unfolded: 159 × 203 × 56 mm (length × width × height)
  • Unfolded (with propellers): 245 × 289 × 56 mm (length × width × height)

As you can see from the images, it is a really small product and if that was already one of the great values of the previous generation, now it is much more so because being so compact does not affect the image quality that it is capable of achieving so much in photo as video. And it is that after all a product of these characteristics is designed to offer the possibility of capturing incredible images wherever we go.

4K video quality

What DJI is capable of achieving with its cameras and three-axis stabilization systems is already well known to all. Also, looking at the latest version of DJI Osmo Pocket 2 you can get an idea of what more or less this new drone was going to offer.

The Mini 2 is capable of capturing video at 4K and 30p resolution thanks to the use of a 12 MP sensor . In addition, it now incorporates the option of being able to perform a zoom of up to 4x with which you will not have to bring the drone closer while flying to achieve the desired frame. Obviously it is a digital zoom, but in several situations it will be interesting to have this option.

This zoom, so that the quality is not affected, will have different levels according to the established video quality. That means that in 4K the zoom will be 2X, in 2.7K video recording mode you can go up to 3x magnification and in FHD up to 4x.

Regarding the photographs, nothing really new with respect to what the Mavic Mini provided. With the 12 MP sensor and a lens with an aperture f2.8 and an angle of view of about 83º, the quality will be more than enough to obtain more than interesting captures that can offer a maximum size of 4,000 x 3,000 pixels in format. 4: 3 and 4,000 x 2,250 pixels in 16: 9 .

To all this we must add the different and classic smart modes of DJI products and their drones in particular. For example, flight modes such as Dronie, Spiral, Rocket, Orbit or Boomerang.

These modes, as always, are activated through the application and are very easy to take advantage of in a multitude of day-to-day situations. Of course, as we have always said, always using the DJI remote with our mobile phone and not only with the phone as a control method.

First of all because of the precision that it achieves with the levers of the control itself and then because of the greater possibilities of control at a greater distance thanks to OcuSync 2.0 technology

The strengths of the DJI Mini 2

After seeing the most important at the level of design and photo and video quality, the DJI Mini 2 offers other strengths that make it a much more attractive proposition. These are the following:

  • Compact size and weighing less than 250 gr. Although that does not prevent countries like Spain from still being limited in terms of flight options due to a matter of legal regulations
  • 4K 30p resolution video with an outstanding stabilization system
  • New Zoom option up to 4K according to video resolution
  • Flying power and ability to withstand possible wind currents well without affecting the recording
  • Intelligent flight modes and OcuSync 2.0 technology
  • 31 min flight time with a single battery (duration approx. Depending on flight conditions)
  • Ease of control and ergonomics of the new control
  • Price

Yes, the price is the other of the strengths of this new DJI drone, although it costs a little more than the previous model to start with.

The DJI Mini 2 basic pack consisting only of the drone, the controller, a battery and the cables necessary for charging and connecting the smartphone is priced at 459 euros. Although if you are interested, it is always more interesting to buy the DJI Mini 2 Fly More Pack option directly, which costs 599 euros but includes three batteries plus its corresponding charging base and a bag for transport.

However, it is up to each one to choose which one interests them the most depending on how they think they will get the most out of the device. The important thing is that there is already a new DJI Mini 2 and it is the same or more attractive than its previous model. It is a pity that for now we are not in a position to enjoy it 100% on trips and other outings from home.

By the way, it is curious how DJI has added the possibility of placing some accessories such as LED screens or LEGO building blocks through an adapter that can be purchased separately and has a cost of 15 euros.
