Demon’s Souls Will Not Have Ray Tracing on PS5, Why?

Demon's Souls Will Not Have Ray Tracing on PS5

Both Microsoft and Sony promised us with the new generation a series of graphical improvements that would allow us to make a leap in terms of visual quality on the console. It was the ray tracing or ray tracing, an extremely striking feature, but it seems that it will not always be hope.

Demon’s Souls runs out of reflections

Demons Souls

One of the games that is making the most noise in the PlayStation 5 welcome catalog is Demon’s Souls. The Bluepoint title will once again make us enjoy its unmistakable genre as it did on PlayStation 3, with a remake that looks spectacular and that has caught the attention of all fans of the saga. However, it will not be as spectacular as you might think.

The problem will be that the game, although it looks great, could look even better, since the developers have decided not to include ray tracing effects. That’s what we can find out from an interview conducted by the guys at Level Up, who after speaking with Demon’s Souls creative director Gavon Moore, confirmed that ray tracing technology was scrapped to focus on other aspects of the game.

A matter of optimization and costs

According to the manager himself, the team ruled out the possibility of implementing ray tracing simply due to a question of optimization in development time and costs. “Like any other graphic improvement, there is a cost. If we had implemented ray tracing in the game, that would mean that we would have had to leave something out. There is a limited time in game development ”.

PS5 could do it without problems

These words also serve to clear up any doubts regarding the implementation of ray tracing in PlayStation 5. Moore confirmed that PS5 is absolutely capable of moving this technology, but here in this case it has been looked at more for perfection in other aspects, more than to include visual flourishes.

The time is gold

This is something that we are already starting to see in some games. In the case of Devil May Cry 5, Capcom decided to leave the Xbox Series S without this functionality, something that could make us think that it was due to the potential of the console itself, but that could be ruled out if we consider that Watch Dogs: Legion if it will offer ray tracing on the small console.

We are therefore facing a technical requirement that requires more hours of work, and therefore, more expenses in the production period, so we will see which companies are willing to assume these costs so that their games look a little more striking.

And you, do you value the incorporation of ray tracing in games? Taking into account that it was promised with the new consoles … the normal thing is that it is included, right?
