Connection Problems with Dualshock 4: Solution and Full Reset

The secret button

You had probably seen it on occasion, but didn’t know exactly what it was. Your Dualshock 4 hides a secret button at the bottom that will allow us to erase your memory in seconds. This serves to unpair it from all devices and leave it looking like new, something that can come as a pearl on more than one occasion.

The button is located on the back of the remote, next to the upper right screw. You must use a sharp and firm object, so a clip or a SIM extractor will be worth to activate it.

How to reset Dualshock 4

Next, we are going to tell you the steps you must follow to erase and reset the Dualshock 4 completely. They are as follows:

  • Make sure you have the PS4 completely turned off. This means that you shouldn’t have it at rest. Any background connection could complicate matters, so turn off the console completely and remove the plug if necessary to be completely safe.

  • Hold the remote and locate the secret button. In the following image you can clearly see where it is.
  • Insert the clip through the hole and press and hold the button inside for 3 and 5 seconds. The controller will be completely erased, so it will have to be re-paired with your console.

  • To do this, connect the controller with a micro USB cable to your console, turn on the PS4 and wait for it to start. On the profile selection screen you should already be able to control the menu, so your controller will finally be paired.
