Cloud storage services have not stopped growing in recent years, both in quantity and functionality. Here we find some as well known as Google Drive, Box, OneDrive or Dropbox, among many other solutions of this type.
Over time these platforms, for many, have become the clear substitute for their storage devices. By this we refer to elements that have been with us for years, such as PC hard drives , external USB drives , memory keys, flash cards, etc. And it is that more and more companies offer us a space in the cloud, specifically on their servers, to store everything we want privately.
This saves us taking up space in our local storage units and occupying that of the large servers of these companies. Furthermore, in principle most of these reserved spaces are offered free of charge . Later, when we need to expand it. normally we will have to pay for it. But in most cases, at least for end users, the free part is more than enough.
In these lines we are going to focus on one of the best known cloud proposals of this type, such as Dropbox, a platform that we access from here . This is an alternative that has been with us for many years and that has not stopped growing and improving. However, there are certain parameters that are established by default to which we should pay attention and change. That is why we will talk about them below, something that will be very useful if you are Dropbox regulars.
For privacy, empty the trash in Dropbox
Here we are going to handle a good amount of file and data folders. But when something no longer serves us, we will eliminate it, just as we do in Windows . Of course, we must bear in mind that Dropbox keeps a copy of these deleted contents in the Deleted Files section. Therefore, to make sure that no one else will be able to access them, we also recommend emptying that bin.
Activate two-step verification
To access our cloud platform account, we must use a password . But we also recommend that you activate, for security, the two-factor authentication that the platform offers us. We do this by clicking on our icon and accessing Settings / Security. Here we can activate the Verification in two steps, and establish the preferred method
At the same time Dropbox allows us to receive a series of notifications regarding events that occur in our storage space. That is why we recommend you customize this section, since there are many that we can use. This is something that we can carry out from Settings / notifications. Here we will see the availability of these elements, and we activate only those that interest us.
As with most of these cloud storage services , Dropbox allows us to share the content stored here. We can choose which folders we want to share with other users. But this is something that we carry out over the years, so we will probably forget what we shared, and what we did not. That is why it is best to take a look, from time to time, at the section called Shared, to see if we are unintentionally making personal files known to others.
