How to change the name on Facebook: Add a nickname

Whatever the reason, we can keep the same profile under another name and we can do it as many times as we want as long as we comply with the rules of the social network. Although Facebook is deprecated compared to other social networks like TikTok or Instagram, we still use it and we want it to be well configured.

Change your name on Facebook

We can modify the name on Facebook from the computer browser by accessing our account on the website. Or from the mobile phone application if you have it installed on your mobile phone and want to modify the settings from here. We give you the two options and a step-by-step guide to do it in both.

The only condition that Facebook sets is that you can change the name every sixty days. They explain it from the web configuration: “If you change your name on Facebook, you will not be able to change it again for 60 days”.

From the browser

If you want to change your name on Facebook we can do it from the computer by accessing the browser and entering our account. We can modify the name from the profile settings on the web page and it will only take a few seconds to do so. You must take into account that users will search for you through this name from the moment you change it. In addition, you can change it as many times as you want and Facebook does not limit this modification to us.

• We open Facebook.com
• We log in with our email and password
• We access our profile
• Go to the top right corner of the screen
• We touch on the icon of the arrow down
• A menu will open with different options
• We choose “Settings and privacy” next to the gear icon
• We touch again in “ Settings ”

Here the general configuration of the account will be opened and we will have a series of data that we can modify as we please:

• Name
• Username
• Contact
• Ad Account Contact
• Memorial Account Setup
• identity confirmation

Next to each section we can touch “Edit” to change some data. In this case, to modify the name. It will be the first thing we see and you simply have to touch “Edit” and three fields will appear: Name, middle name and last name. The second is optional, but you can change the name and surname.

There are requirements: you must not add any capital letters or punctuation marks or characters that could be strange. You also cannot add random words and it is not recommended to do so if you want people to find you easily.

From mobile phone

We can also modify the name on Facebook from our mobile phone if we have the social network application installed on our iOS or Android smartphone.

• We open the >Facebook application on our mobile phone
• We touch on the three lines on the right side of the screen
• We scroll to the bottom of the screen
• We touch on “settings and privacy”
• A menu with more options will open
• We choose “configuration”, the first one
• We will see the different configuration and preferences sections
• Let’s go to the first group: Account
• Here, choose “Personal and account information”

As in the case of the desktop version, we can change four options: Name, contact information, identity confirmation, ownership and account control. As in the previous case, we must tap on “ Name ” so that the different options appear: Name, optional second name, surnames. When we have it, we tap on “review change” and request the modification.

At the bottom of the screen we will have the option to choose or change a nickname, as we will also see in the next section if we want to add a usual nickname or want it to appear at the top of the Facebook profile.

Add other names or pronunciation

In addition to our name and surnames, we can also fill in other interesting fields such as a nickname, for example, or another name by which you are known. It is likely that your name is Pepe Pérez but that all your friends or family know you by a unique nickname that no one else has. In that case, it will be much easier for your acquaintances to search for you on Facebook through that name and not the “official” one that only your parents or your closest relatives know, for example.

Add Nickname on Facebook

In this case, the steps are simple to add a nickname or nickname to our profile on the social network:

• We open Facebook
• Let’s go to our profile
• We tap on “Information”
• We choose the option “Details about you” in the menu on the left

Here we will see all the options : Information, pronunciation of the name or nickname.

We can choose between several options:

Name Pronunciation

There are other details that we can choose and that we can add to our Facebook profile. We can choose to fill in how our name is pronounced, for example, so that other people know how to say it if it is a foreign name . When we touch on “edit”, Facebook gives us a series of ideas about how our first and last names are pronounced. We can choose the one that most corresponds to how it is actually pronounced or we can add our own.

From the social network they suggest these options and indicate “the pronunciations of the names are always public and allow people to know how to say your name”. We just have to choose and touch “save”.
