Amazon Prime Video has become one of the most used platforms by users thanks to the fact that you do not pay exclusively for it but for the complete package of Amazon services. In addition, it is full of original and exclusive series, such as The Boys, or classics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So if you are starting to use it or intend to, this is how you can change the language in Amazon Prime Video.
There are two options to change the language in Amazon Prime Video: modify the interface or settings, menus or categories, or change the audio of the content you are going to watch. You can have the interface in Spanish, for example, to see the titles of the movies in this language, but you can watch the series in English or German if you want. It allows you to change as many times as you want if you like to watch a movie in French but another in English, German or Norwegian. You can also do it from the app or from the website. We explain how, step by step.
Change language
The available languages that Amazon Prime Video allows are not as many as other streaming platforms like Netflix, but enough so that you can modify the menus, etc. Keep in mind that what you are going to change is not the audio of the series or movies you watch but what you are going to modify is the menus, categories, etc. The languages available on Amazon Prime Video are: German, Danish, Spanish, French, Hindi, English, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish, Tamil, and Tegulu.
To do this, you can do it from the website or from the application.
From the web
From the web page follow these steps:
- Open Amazon Prime Video
- Login with your email and password
- Tap in the upper right corner of the first
- Choose Account and settings
- Open the “Language” section at the top of the menu
- Here you will see all the available options
- Choose the one you want
- Confirm with Save
From the app
You can also change it from the Amazon Prime Video app. The first time you open the app, it will appear in the language that you have configured by default on your phone or tablet, but you can change it at any time.
- Download the application on your mobile phone or tablet
- Login with your username and password
- Go to the bottom menu and tap on My space
- Choose the gear icon in the upper right corner
- You will open the app Settings
- Find the Language section
- Tap on it
- Choose the language you want from all the available ones
It will be changed automatically.
Subtitle
To activate the subtitles or change the language of a series or movie , the previous steps will not help us because they will change the language of the web or the interface but not of the contents themselves. For this, the steps are different and you will have to modify it within the title itself once you have started the playback. The first thing we will have to know is what is available in each series or movie.
Check available audios and subtitles
When you are browsing through the different categories of Amazon Prime Video you can choose which title you are going to see, a series or movie that you want. Once you are inside it, you will see the information: you will be able to see the IMDb score, age, quality, a description of the series and the record. In this happiness we will find the two options that interest us : subtitles and audio languages in which it is.
You will see that in the file you find:
- Distribution
- Genders
- Subtitle
- Audio languages
In these last two categories, you will generally see a “more …” where you can see all the options in which it is available before you start to see it. You will also be able to check the audio and subtitle languages for each episode in particular in case there are any missing in the exact language you want, for example.
Once you have seen that this series or movie is in the language you need (it may not be in Spanish due to a specific problem in dubbing) you can start watching it. From the playback you can change the language of it.
Change language
- Open the series or movie you want
- Once inside the player, move the mouse or tap to see options
- You will see some icons in the upper right part of the screen
- Choose “Subtitles and audio”
- Choose the audio language in which you want to see the series
- Choose the language of the subtitles
In the case of watching the series from the Amazon Prime Video application, the process is identical: when you touch on the screen, you will see the subtitles icon in the upper right corner and you can click on it to change the audio.
In all profiles and series
Keep in mind that the language of Amazon Prime Video both in audio and in subtitles that you choose in a series will be automatically saved for the rest of the series or movies that you open so you will have to follow the same process above to modify the audio in each one.
It also changes from one profile to another as long as the languages are available so if you share an Amazon Prime Video account with another person, the changes will also apply for that person unless you modify the playback settings once the series has started. You must bear in mind that the change of subtitles and audio by default is applicable to all users of the application.
Modify subtitles
Beyond changing the language of the subtitles, you can also modify how they appear : choose the color, the format or the size if you don’t see them well from the couch.
In this case, you simply have to follow the previous steps: you have to open the series or movie you want and touch the icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Here you will see that the option “subtitle settings” appears. Touch on it and you can choose the size from five different options or choose the way they are displayed: normal, shaded, in another color, with a black background.
