Canon announced the development of a new camera. This is the Canon EOS R3 and at first it will remind you of one of its most popular proposals among professionals, the 1DX. A large camera for professionals
Canon announced the arrival of new lenses for its RF mount, which is the one used by its latest mirrorless cameras such as the Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 that we were able to review here a few months ago. The new optics range from macro lenses to telephoto lenses with focal lengths of 400 and 600 mm that rely on excellent performance and mainly on a very high autofocus speed.
Well, along with these new crystals, the company also talked about the development of what will be one of its next releases: the Canon EOS R3 . This camera had already been leaked hours before and without knowing much about it, one could sense the approach it could have.
For starters, you should know that the way Canon number their cameras does not follow the bottom line, so the EOS R3 would be a superior model to the R5 and R6 . Although it is not that this is something very successful, because there is no camera better than another but a camera more suitable than another for what type of use.
In this case, the EOS R3 is a camera that is very focused on the professional profile that usually opts for models such as the popular Canon EOS 1DX, one of the best SLRs for sports and action photography where shooting speed and robustness prevail.
And of course, with that approach, the strong design that the camera will have is much better justified and that as standard it will have that double grip already integrated . A detail that for those who like something more compact for certain moments will make it not so attractive. But for the professional, who works in more adverse conditions, that is much better than a removable grip.
Technical characteristics of the Canon EOS R3
Beyond the particle design that is very focused on comfort, agility of use and durability, what many will want to know are the technical characteristics of this future Canon proposal. Well, we have to say that there is not much data because it has not been given by the brand, although there are some other interesting details.
The sensor, which is of course a full frame type , Canon says has been developed in-house to provide the user with the ability to shoot at very fast speeds. In combination with the electronic shutter it could take up to 30 shots s and reduce the distortion that could be generated. All this without leaving aside the Dual Pixel autofocus system that we could already see with the EOS R5. And yes, that includes eye and body detection focusing.
Of course, the new electronic viewfinder or EVF is striking, which will have the ability to detect where the user is looking to establish this area as the first in which the AF system will begin to search for what we want for photography. Obviously, it will be necessary to test to what extent it is effective and if the use of certain glasses (mainly due to the type of glass) could affect or not, but it would be of great help in sports events or photography of action and nature in which we hope that a subject or object enters through a certain area of the frame.
For the rest, Canon has not released much more data on sensor resolution, price or even estimated release date. So you will have to be patient until you continue to know all these data and many more. But if you were expecting a camera with this approach and capable of replacing the 1DX, it seems that it is not far behind.
