Xiaomi Camera Problems: Fix Blur, Black Screens and App Crashes

Updated 19 October 2026.

Start by separating a photo-quality problem from a camera that will not open. A dirty lens, an app permission and a damaged camera need different fixes. On Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones, menu names also vary between models and MIUI or HyperOS releases.

Camera Problems on Xiaomi Phones

If photos look blurry

  1. Clean the camera glass gently with a soft, dry cloth.
  2. Remove a case or lens protector that may obstruct the lens or reflect light.
  3. Photograph a still subject in good daylight.
  4. Tap the subject to focus, and move farther away if it is very close.
  5. Compare the main, front and other available cameras.

Xiaomi’s blurry-photo guidance also notes that an exposure/focus lock can prevent refocusing when the subject distance changes. Release the lock or reopen Camera before comparing another shot.

A moving subject in a dark room is not a good basic hardware test. Compare the saved original in Gallery, rather than a compressed copy sent through a messaging app.

If the preview is black or Camera closes

What happens What to try
Only one social or scanning app fails Check that app’s camera permission and updates.
Every camera app fails Restart, check official updates and inspect the Camera app settings.
One lens fails consistently Record which lens and arrange model-specific support.
The problem followed a drop or liquid exposure Seek assessment rather than repeatedly resetting software.

Close a video call or another app that may be using the camera, then restart the phone. Install the official system and app updates offered for that model. An update intended for a different region or device is not a suitable troubleshooting shortcut.

Reset Camera settings carefully

Where available, open Camera settings and choose Restore default settings. Xiaomi’s camera-stopped-working checklist also describes clearing Camera data. Find the Camera app in your device’s app-management settings and read the confirmation before proceeding.

Select Camera rather than Gallery or a general storage-cleaning tool. This is a targeted settings step, not permission to erase the photo library. Maintain a backup of important photos before broader troubleshooting.

Know when to stop changing settings

If the fault persists, note the exact model, software version, error and affected lens. Contact Xiaomi or an authorized service provider. Avoid opening hidden diagnostic menus unless model-specific support asks you to use them.

Installing an unofficial camera APK does not establish whether the hardware is healthy, and erasing the whole phone is not the first step. Our Huawei camera troubleshooting guide uses the same symptom-first approach, although its device-specific menus differ.

FAQs

Will a camera update fix a scratched lens?

No. Physical damage needs assessment rather than a software workaround.

Should I install a GCam APK first?

No. Diagnose the stock Camera app and use official support before considering unrelated camera software.

Why is only a shared photo blurry?

Compare it with the original in Gallery. Sharing apps may resize or compress it.

Should I factory-reset the phone?

Start with the targeted checks. A full reset is a later, separate decision requiring backups.
