In recent years we have seen a clear trend in the world of video games. The developers have pulled melancholy to bring back numerous classic games to play with a completely rejuvenated new aesthetic adapted to the times. They are the so-called remakes , very interesting works that bring back old glories to life that manage to get back to the top of the sales chart.
Start over
With this list, we are going to list a series of new versions of video games that have managed to grab the attention of players of all kinds, since while many have enjoyed playing again, others have discovered for the first time authentic gems that could not be let pass.

What’s the difference between a remastering and a remake?
As its name suggests, a remake is a remade job. In other words, the developers have based on the original idea of the game, but have written the code from scratch to offer a completely new version that makes the most of the new platform on which it is launched. One of the great examples is that of Final Fantasy VII.
Remasters, on the other hand, start with the base of the original game, and in this case what developers do is update graphics and textures so that the game looks much better. Typically, in today’s releases, remasters are prepared to be able to play in 4K and enjoy more detailed images.
The best video game remakes
Resident Evil

If there is a saga that especially draws attention to this remake, it is Resident Evil . We can go back to 2002 to find the first remake of the original Resident Evil, a version that arrived on the Nintendo Gamecube and that fans loved. But in recent months we have enjoyed two especially spectacular releases, as both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 have received their respective remakes with incredible results.
Final Fantasy VII

What was one of the most shouted and applauded announcements of the last editions of E3 came in 2020 to recall old times. And how. The work done by Square Enix with this remake of Final Fantasy VII is tremendous, although unfortunately the game comes in installments, so players won’t be able to complete the story until the following parts are published.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

What started as a free-time project in the Nintendo offices ended up becoming a jewel in the history of video games. Link’s Awakening came to Game Boy in 1993, and in 2019 Nintendo decided to release a spectacular, extremely colorful remake, with the essence of always, but including some new aspects that make it more fun if possible.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

Become inadvertently the PlayStation mascot, Crash Bandicoot fell in love with platform lovers with an extremely fun and original game. It so permeated the players, that in 2017 Activision prepared a brutal remake of the first three installments of the saga, launching the new game on Xbox One, PS4 and Switch.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy

But there is no use launching Crash Bandicoot if you forget Spyro, the nice dragon that offered us so many afternoons of fun on PlayStation. Another trilogy in the form of a remake with lots of details that thanks to the Unreal Engine 4 takes us to the incredible world of dragons that we flew over in 1998 with this charismatic character.
Shadow of Colossus

Launched on PlayStation 2 in 2005, its limitations in control and fair graphics did not prevent the game from becoming a symbol of what was then the Sony console. 12 years later, Sony announced the spectacular remake that would allow many to pay off an outstanding debt with one of the best PlayStation games.
The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition

The true representative of the point and click graphic adventures received a deserved reamke that perhaps did not achieve the expected success. The reason was possibly due to the loss of one of the essences of the original game, and is that the pixelated aesthetic with really ingenious designs was a big part of the success and magic of Monkey Island. Still, it is a version to keep in mind and completely mandatory for those who have not played the game at this point.
Half-Life
Although this is not an official version created directly by Valve, the work of the Crowbar Collective could very well be a release with the valve seal. Based on the Source engine, this incredible remake of the legendary Half-Life completely transforms everything we knew so far from Gordon Freeman’s first adventure.
Other rumored and upcoming remakes

If you thought the remake fever had subsided, you are completely wrong. New games completely redesigned from scratch will arrive in the coming months, and one of the closest we have is Mafia, which will look like a completely new game while maintaining the fantastic gangster story that was so popular a few years ago. We will have it in stores on August 28. Also, another great release to come is the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2, a spectacular remake of the skate simulator that revolutionized the world of boards when it was released on PlayStation.
But the main dish could be yet to come, as many rumors suggest that the legendary Super Mario 64 could arrive in the form of a remake for the Nintendo Switch. It would be an incredible launch that will undoubtedly attract many eyes, so we will be watching to see if this prediction is finally fulfilled.
