Many people have a second home on the beach or in the mountains, a place to spend their holidays and enjoy their free time. However, free time for many users also involves using the computer in leisure time, and therefore there are many who want to take it with them in the car when they go on vacation. If you are one of these people, be very careful, whether it is a desktop PC or a laptop, because it carries some risks.
Precautions for carrying the computer in the trunk
The first thing you should keep in mind is that, if you are going to put the PC in the trunk of the car, you should place it in such a way that it does not move or wobble during the trip, since the jolts, inertia and shocks can damage your precious PC , even if they are only cosmetic damage to the box (be very careful if you have a tempered glass side). Make sure that it is well secured and if you have tempered glass, that it go with something padded on that side (such as a blanket or bubble wrap) to prevent it from breaking.
In the event that you take the desktop PC, it would also be advisable to remove the graphics card and the heatsink if it is a tower type, since these swings that can occur during the trip could also cause internal damage to the equipment, especially in the PCIe socket of the motherboard to which the graphics are connected and in the retention system of the heatsink socket, since it could end up breaking or bending the motherboard itself. In any case, you can try to fill the interior of the PC with bubble wrap to minimize this movement.
Another recommendation in this regard is that, although depending on the car it can take up a lot of space, it is advisable to carry the box lying down and not standing up, since this way these inertias will be less and the components will suffer less.
Never leave your PC “forgotten” in the car
And not only because it can be stolen, but because now in summer, the heat can cause such a greenhouse effect inside the car that it can literally melt plastics. This is even more important if it is a laptop, since the heat could cause the battery to explode and you will be left without a computer and without a car…
For this reason, if you have to make a stop along the way to rest and refresh yourself, try to leave the car in the shade, since, as we mentioned, high temperatures can end up causing real misfortune. Be careful, nothing will happen either because you leave the car in the sun for 15-20 minutes and more if you had the air conditioning on during the trip (since the interior temperature will be relatively low), but for prolonged periods you do have to be more careful and make sure the heat isn’t going to leave you without gear.
