Apple Virtual Reality Glasses: New Patent Describes it

Like every day, Apple has registered dozens of documents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Everything normal up to here considering that it is a common practice in a company of this caliber. However, there has been one that has drawn powerfully attention because it also refers to a device that has been talked about a lot and little is known: the company’s virtual reality (VR) glasses. Next we analyze what this patent describes.

Apple VR glasses will prevent you from crashing

Apple does not intend to invent virtual reality glasses at this point after models have been around for several years. Without going any further, its arch rival Samsung has the most popular models on the market. From Cupertino, what they want is to offer an improved experience compared to all their competitors and for this reason they are developing a series of technologies that would differentiate them from the rest.

The patent application we were talking about at the beginning is described in an extensive document which they have entitled “Detection of physical limits”. Without reading further, it is possible to intuit a good part of what is going to be described, however it is interesting to read to know how the system will be by which we could avoid colliding with objects when we were wearing these Californians virtual reality glasses.

Without going too much into more technical descriptions, we can see that some type of system formed by sensors would be added that would allow us to measure the distance between objects and through artificial intelligence determine if they are too close to us. If this is the case, the glasses would show the user an image or warning so that they were aware of it and did not crash. If this warning is ignored, the goggles could show the real environment to get the person out of the “bubble” and see the danger with their own eyes. It is likely that this could be achieved using LiDAR sensors like the ones we have in equipment such as Apple’s latest iPad Pro.

How many glasses will Apple release?

Talking about this matter is somewhat tricky, especially if we remember that a few months ago the cancellation of Apple’s augmented reality (AR) glasses project was announced. In any case, we have not stopped receiving information about these accessories. It is expected that on the one hand the aforementioned AR glasses could be announced next year 2021 and perhaps launched in 2022. On the other hand there would be the accessory that we mentioned in this news that could be a VR glasses or directly a full helmet that captures better head movements.

Be that as it may, we do not have conclusive information to shed any light on an uncertain panorama. Predicting an iPhone, iPad or Mac is relatively simple considering that they are devices with a few generations behind them. Any type of accessory like these would mean adding new elements to Apple’s product line and therefore entering still unknown territory.
