Since the introduction of the Mac mini, the Apple team became, at least for me, the Mac of the eGPU . A fairly capable team with an important weak point for many users: graphic power. Not having a dedicated GPU, compared to the iMac range, started with a disadvantage. Today, Apple’s new Mac Pro and its new screen are on sale. Two teams designed for the professional public that demands high performance. But there is a wide spectrum of users looking for an Apple desktop with which to perform a wide variety of tasks without leaving a kidney.
For them, the iMac range is the most complete if having an all-in-one with an integrated display is not a problem. If so, if you don’t want a monitor, then the only option is the Mac mini. This is an interesting computer but with a significant lack in terms of graphic performance. Not having a powerful card falls short of tasks such as editing, 3D animation or video games.
The solution? Connect an eGPU. Do you find it interesting and attractive? Well, there is a small problem. This for now is still just a project in Kickstarter . To achieve this goal is set at almost 600,000 euros. An amount that is not impossible but complicated due to the target audience to whom the product is directed.
In addition, the final price of the same would also be a barrier for some because during the financing process it would cost about 800 euros . Then it would go up as is logical and as has happened with other projects within the financing platform.
Therefore, although the idea is great and fits perfectly in what many would have asked Apple, we must have patience and see if they effectively achieve it or not.
